Autodynamics 69 Charger

Ever since I was in forth grade I wanted a "general lee" well after thirty years later I got that wish. When I first got it I was going to turn it into a general lee but then I changed my mind. I really wanted to build a modern day fuel injected 69 charger that would be turn key, handling braking monster.

The car started off a a green 318 small block with a white vinyl top and white interior. I bought the car online sight unseen from Florida. I had It shipped to NY and started to figure out on how to make a modern muscle machine. I knew I didn't want drum brakes and the handling of an old car. . Nothing really was available from allot of vendors. Baer brakes didn't have a B-body application but after a ton of research I figured how to make it happen. A LOT of the purchasing was done through a ton of research to actually see what worked on the car and what didn't. Few people were able to help me. Others steered me into the wrong direction.

As I was deciding what motor/trans/ wheels to go with i sent the car to the body shop where Keith and his brother Steve did all the body work. K&M AUTOKRAFT massaged the body and labored 400 hours into the once rust free original panel car. I had them shave the rain gutters fill in all side marker openings all factory seams and antenna hole. I had all the gaps welded and panels spaced evenly. I choose ford gt-40 Blue for color. A ghost stripe was also added on the tail for that extra touch. Once back from body I bought a set of corbeau gtIII seats and had them recovered to match the factory pattern in white and the rears followed. I had all the plastic, chrome and headliner redone. All the interior and i mean everything was redone. Windows switches screws bulbs etc.etc.etc. Nothing was left undone. I dynamated the entire interior before i installed the original gauge cluster that redline gauge works redid for me. They converted my amp gauge to a volt gauge and installed a tach in place of the old clock. They also refinished my gauges in white with orange needles.After the interior was completed carpet headliner, seatbelts,plastic,chrome,handles, glass.......and on and on...... Soon after i had the suspension done by Al's performance in Lindenhurst New York They installed the bear brakes front and rear, hotchkis sway bars, tubular upper controls hydroboost from hydratech. All new bushings and shocks were installed. I had them powder coat the entire suspension,k member, and anything that needed durability.

Once that was all done I put on the Budnik 18x10 and 18x8 fontana's mounted. i had Budnik drill out ball rivets to give the wheel a 2 piece look. Once the suspension and wheels went on the car I drove it for a month before tearing it all down once again. This time it was major surgery motor trans and rear all came out. A new 6.1 Hemi crate motor was installed backed by a keisler automatic 4 speed. Out back 3.91 went in. A true trac sure grip was built by Dr Diff. With the 3.06 first gear on the trans the combo was perfect. I had a custom gas tank made from Ricks Hot Rod Shop in Texas. Ron Davis supplied us with a aluminum radiator with electric fans mounted and ready to go.Psc Power steering Specialties helped us sort out some power steering issues. After the motor and trans went in the exhaust and electronics was next. TTi supplied the headers and full exhaust. The pcm was flashed by B&G and the wiring harness was supplied by Tony Squire. Once that was all done the car began coming together. There was allot of attention to detail throughout the entire car. Pictures cannot represent all the talent that went into getting this plain old 69 charger into a modern day pro touring machine! From the body work to the wheels to the lights...every part of the car was carefully massaged and gone over paying close attention not to loose its originality.

A lot of tweaking and man hours went into this ride. Currently the car has about 500hp gets about 16-20 mpg on the Highway. The car is enjoyable and not fatiguing even after a 3 hour drive. Its a sure pleasure to drive.

ALL I WANNA KNOW IS TOTAL COST TO REBUILD!!! My charger has the 318 as well. I am going to stroke it to a 391 and get about 500 ponies at the fly wheel. Wanna know how the tranny in your car is holding up still not sure what i should do yet??
