Updated 10-22-2001 Here are some new things I have done to my car: Completely sound deadened the firewall, wheel wells, and the roof. I ripped out my old tan cloth interior and installed a black leather interior I bought at a junkyard. More about that on page 11. I also installed some additional sound deadening in the doors. Deflex pads were mounted behind the door speakers to eliminate distortion and the improvement was noticed by me immediately. I can now cross them over lower and play louder without any distortion. As you can see I've made the doors into sealed enclosures using a product called "RAAMmat". On top of that carpet padding was added to decouple the door panel from the door to stop some of the vibration. In the doors I build very thick and rigid mdf baffle to support my new A/D/S coaxial speakers. Beginning of my mdf baffle installation. More... Pressure for better hold. Here is what the door looked like before Here is me test fitting the baffle. Fits nice and snug. Done....Wow it came out nice! Voila! Some dynaliner to quiet the engine noise! A shot of my fully sound deadened door panel. No vibration here! Here is my A/D/S subwoofer. I recently took my headliner off and sound deadened the roof with two layers of Raam mat. This made the car slightly quieter and reduced the annoying resonations caused by the subs. Before. After. I reused the factory carpet padding that was there. The roof does not come with any sound deadening from the factory! A little note on the side. After doing the roof, I had to remove my headliner again a couple of months later during my interior color conversion. I noticed that Raam mat held up very well in the heat. The only place where it didnt hold up so well is on the roof beams that can be seen in the pictures. I hope this wont come back and haunt me a couple of years down the road. If you plan to do your roof, just make sure youre applying mats to the flat surfaces only. Dont try to be a hero like me and cover every single piece of real estate up there. There is a price to pay!
