tysmagic's 1996 Audi Cabriolet

1996 Audi Cabriolet

She has had a rough life, but since I have owned her I have continued to bring new life to her beaten and torn body. When I first bought my car from an insurance auction she was a sorry sight to see. In need of love and restoration. An unfortunate accident with a tree and my new baby somewhere in Miami gave what some might call character or more appropriate a nasty bit of razor burn.

Fixed the fender with some bondo. The hood came from an Audi 90 in the junk yard. It turned out really good and I'm proud to have her on the road again.

Next came the rear bumper. Had some high hopes again with the Audi 90 in the junk yard, turns out it didn't fit right. So with some more bondo and some help from the local body shop I'm thinking that it turned out looking pretty good.

Replaced the rear rotors, they were worn out. Plan on replacing the fronts with slotted rotors in the future when I replace the pads. Had to pull the rotors off for some refurbishing, wish I had repainted them while they were off. The rotors came from R1 Concepts, ebay, they sell solid, slotted, drilled and combos.

The interior was begging for some help. I had tried scrubbing and cleaning and all but dying the leather to restore the color. The only step was to replace the leather, I was going to just replace it back to factory. The original color is parchment, but after talking with the upholstery guy for a while we came up with something a little more creative. It turned out awesome, it cleans up easy and really adds a nice look to the car.

In my search for parts I stumbled upon a Cabriolet in the scrap yard with some very cool rims. I researched and researched the wheels, yet to my demise I could never find them. Turns out these wheels were an option on the 1997 and 1998 Cabriolet with the all weather package which was available in the states, as well as on the Audi 80 competition which was a UK only model. They are some what rare wheels and I love how they look. They have Dunlop Sport FM901 205/55r16's wrapped around them

It was a very big day the sunday after prom (April 19, 2009), returning my tux look down and a big row of zeros: 120,000 miles

Had to do some work this month. I had a terrible shake in the car, not really steering just the whole car shimmying. Also, it was only under throttle. Started by replacing some old suspension parts, the tops strut mount bushings were dubbed the problem, however the bearings were bad too. I pulled the suspension from the Cabriolet in the junk yard and bought new bushings. This solved the problem slightly. Next replaced the left drive axle, the right was replaced a while ago.

Leave me a comment, tell me what you think! I'm always doing more to my cars and I hope you are too.

dad has taken over the Audi. I still get to drive it, but I'm slowly getting it back to stock. The subs and amp are for sale. As is the headunit. It's a little bitter sweet.

The car is really nothing special but when I saw what you've done I was shocked. The interior made my say Holy shit out loud when I saw it. Looks awesome! I want two tone leather in my car so bad but with this economy..it's not happening right now.
