FINAL UPDATE :(
Sold the car a couple of weeks ago to its happy new owner. The turbo kit never found its way onto the car, it fit like shit and begi's customer service and shipping departments are absolutely useless, delaying the build so much that the car was returned to stock.
I already miss the miata though, I see another in my future when funds allow an "extra" car. For now I've replaced the miata with a SR20 swapped 95 240sx. The disco potato that was waiting for the miata has found a new home on the SR, time for a tune, injectors, and a new MAF.

Last week replaced : water pump, timing belt, cam seals, cas o-ring, valve cover gasket, serpentine belts, front main seal, and flushed out some nasty old coolant. I got some cash for my b-day today, so the clutch will be in the mail soon!

Well some unfortunate news, upon returning form my recent ski trip I found a small puddle of coolant under the car that had come from the front of the engine. Looks like its time to replace the water pump, timing belt, and do all of the other maintinence I had been putting off.

Turbo update! It looks like I am now going to go with a full Bell Engineering turbo kit rather than messing around with the DIY route. I am waiting for my SSM kit with GT2860R and all the good stuff.
Here are two pictures from my recent trip to El Mirage dry lakebed with my friend in his nasty Subaru RSTI. Not much has changed on my exterior, just no more ugly front plate.

I finally cleaned up the car and took some more pictures of it. Only one or two subtle changes, one of which was adjusting the ride height. I previously had the collars on the coilovers adjusted so high up that I was getting coil bind on hard compressions before I was hitting the bumpstops, so the solution was to lower it! No more bind plus the car looks better. Also the sparco sprint V seat and harness are in, combined with the sparco champion steering wheel, the car feels great to drive now.
Turbo progress is still slow, and the megasquirt may come out of the car untill I have the 460cc injectors cleaned, but there are one or two things cooking.

Well, I welded the exhaust back together and test fit the manifold and exhaust housing of the turbo, but I need to redo the downpipe because it hits the steering column as is, so its back to stock for now. It is running on megasquirt now, but not tuned. And the turbo that I thought I could rebuild turns out to be a ball bearing unit, so no rebuild for me :(.
older update-
I finally started putting together a turbo kit for my miata! So far I have a manifold, turbo in need of rebuild, downpipe and exhaust, megasquirt pnp, some verious oil lines and bolts, and a few other little bends and pieces for the kit.
Here is a picture of the car as it is now, I added a r-package front lip and sparco champion steering wheel
This is my second miata. It is a 1996 montego blue MX-5 with a factory fitted torsen limited slip.
My last miata met an unpleasant fate, colliding with a telephone pole and flying off of a cliff on a windy canyon road due to a large mid corner bump and damaged suspension. Luckily all of the damage was done by the pole just glancing the passenger side of the front end, and leaving the drivetrain in tact. Using the engine from this crashed car I purchased a 1 owner 96 montego blue miata and had my old engine swapped in, replacing the seized unit that the car came with. This transplant resulted in my current car.
I also transfered most of the performance parts off of my old car, including the Tein SS coilover suspension, Hard Dog Sport roll bar, Tsudo cat back exhaust, Flyin Miata 1" front sway bar, Kosei K1 Racing wheels(one shattered in the crash), and some other various goodies.
I currently commute about 40 miles every day in this car with no problems at all, just a slightly choppy ride over some bad bits of road(suspensions set to 6F/8R). Weekly this car sees some of the best canyon roads on earth winding their way through Malibu from my house all the way to the Topanga area, or the other direction to Leo Carillo beach. I like to drive the car hard, and try to keep up with all of the maintenance in order to combat the beating I give the car daily.
