Update : The SI is undergoing a huge round of modifications. We have already completed the skeletons for the new stereo system and changed some upholstery in the car. Next, we will be installing a custom leather kit, so check back soon for updated pictures! And if you are in California and want audio/video or other electronics installed, or if you want a personalized stereo for your ride, check out www.drivecustoms.com

We just began this project now that my truck is finished (well, is it ever finished?)! I am working on the stereo system with the help of my boyfriend. I hope to do most, if not all, of the fabrication and installation myself. I will keep this updated as we move along. We missed our June deadline, but the car is still coming along as we have time. We decided to swap my factory navigation unit into my boyfriend's 2007 Civic SI. Here are some photos of the swap and some other small mods we have just recently completed.

The Kenwood 9140 installed in the car. Love the red illumination!pilotbear's 2006 Honda Civic pilotbear's 2006 Honda Civic

Closer shot of the red stitching on the steering wheel and a picture of the dash with a single red LED installed for the Clifford alarm that is soon to come.pilotbear's 2006 Honda Civic pilotbear's 2006 Honda Civic

I also stitched the shift knob. Here are a couple of finished shots.pilotbear's 2006 Honda Civic pilotbear's 2006 Honda Civic

On 4/25, I was able to re-install the door armrests, center console armrest and new shift boot. The armrests are now upholstered in black vinyl with a red top stitch. The shift boot is made out of Katzkins Barracuda Red to match the door panel inserts (and eventually the seats).

Door panel reassembled, minus the armrest. Factory speaker grill openings cut out to make room for the new CDT Audio HD 6.5" speakers that will be going in shortly.pilotbear's 2006 Honda Civic pilotbear's 2006 Honda Civic

Removed the insert and armrest off of the door. The new material is on the left. It's a perforated black leather with red behind it.pilotbear's 2006 Honda Civic pilotbear's 2006 Honda Civic

Door panel removed on the right and what's currently behind it on the left. I will be adding layers of Hushmat to sound deaden the car.pilotbear's 2006 Honda Civic pilotbear's 2006 Honda Civic

On the left, there I am using the router to make my subwoofer rings. Once the fiberglass was dry, I removed the bracings and we attached the subwoofer rings at the desired angles. Next, we will make the amp supports and we'll be ready to fleece and reinforce the boxes!

On the left, that's me cutting the bottom off of the fiberglass enclosures in preparation to glass them to the MDF pieces I cut out for the false floor. To the right is a picture of the enclosures back in the trunk and the floor braced at the proper spacing, before I glassed them together.

My boyfriend already began creating the fiberglass enclosures, but I changed my mind on subwoofers so we had to add to them. Here is a before photo and an after with more fiberglass added. And of course, me laying up some fiberglass in the trunk!
