Learned a lot about painting cars doing my brother's 1989 Mustang GT.
Learned about doing body work.

Learned to shoot Primer.

Learned to shoot Sealer.
Learned to shoot Base and Clear.
I needed to do a lot of sanding and buffing to eliminate orange peel.
But once I did the sanding and buffing I realized that I had some trash trapped in the clear coat.
In an attempt to save the paint job, I decided to spray some Pearlescent over the trashy clear. Results were very encouraging.

Then I decided to add some Kandy paint to the mix. Here I sprayed a test panel, and eventually the entire car will look like this:

I bought a fiberglass hood from a guy on craigslist. The hood had some minor damage. Here I am preping the hood by stripping it down to gel coat. I am going to repair it and respray the whole thing to match the rest of the car.
Tried a fine grit at first, P500. Didn't work. Stepped all the way down to P80.
Gelcoat is really wavy. You can tell by the high spots that show up grey (primer) and white (gelcoat)
The underside of the hood has its issues too!
Glass goes down.
3M Premium Marine Grade Filler goes down.
First Coat of 2K Primer.
Second Coat of 2K Primer, and a lot of sanding. Test Fit.
Finally Kandy Coat and Clear Finished at 3AM on 04/06/08. Can't wait to wet sand and buff the clearcoat and make it as smooth as glass. More pictures to come.
This is what the car looks like after I removed all of the overspray and orange peel with sandpaper and I did the Compounding. Next I need to de-swirl and DA buff to eliminate any hazing.
Final buffing and polishing, DONE!!! 4/23/08
