It took 2 years to talk this Thing out of an 85 year old man. A car collector I met at a show here in Silver City. Now finally, I have saved it from the barn. One may not realize the damage a car can get from such neglect. She's mine now.
Spare tire out of the way to show how clean. She is not sportin' the original paint. She's glossy. Stupid lookin' Trout hood ornament. Ear Muffs on the rear sides were on the 74' model. This was, I guess, to keep the dust from getting into the motor area when off-roading. I prefer them off but now I have holes, dammit. Still looks better with em' off. Notice no radio or speakers. I have a nice Head Unit (deck)that is for all digital formats and CD's. Now I need speakers and Amp. I'm also building boxes for the speakers right now and trying to figure out how and where to put the Deck. Dry rotted tires comming off and my Sueki dog hangin' with me. She is better known as "Sueki-NO" by my kids or at least that's what they call her. She loves riding with us but she's a bit of a spaz. My Vanagon is giving up her shoes to allow new rubber. These tires are 14" and fit The stock Thing steelies. My van is going to larger size and width alloys anyway. Top down. Buttoned up for snow. I also took off the side "earmuffs" they don't belong on this year of Thing. It looks better without those on there. That's mo bedda. The stock caps were all bent to shit so, I put the "Mooneyes" caps from my Vanagon on. They are a bit smaller than what's needed though. They still fit kinda. I then sandblasted the wheels and re-sprayed them before mounting the rubber. I have to change up to 15" wheels in the near future any way when I attempt a 4 wheel disk brake conversion.
