063bug's 1963 Volkswagen BeetleThe car was bought in 1990 as transport to and from University. It is the only car I have ever owned. I now drive company cars so this is not a daily driver, just a weekend cruiser.
063bug's 1963 Volkswagen BeetleIt is lowered and adjustable, aftermarket disk brakes all round, reupholstered interiour in vinyl and velour installed by me, rebuilt transmission for freeway driving with a tall 0.82 4th gear and a 2332 engine with 48IDA's to push me along....
063bug's 1963 Volkswagen Beetle The engine is not in it's final colours as I wanted to make sure everything was working properly and was the way I wanted it aestheically first.
063bug's 1963 Volkswagen Beetle On the Dyno for the first time and it only made just over 100HP at the rear wheels (~150HP at the flywheel)with fan belt on, exhaust on and low compression ratio of 8.0:1. The car has since had the heads changed, matchported inlet manifolds, webers installed, Increased compression ratio to 9.5:1 and much reduced piston to head clearance to make the engine more efficient.

The car at a local show on the Gold Coast. Alas no awards for the day but a good turnout 063bug's 1963 Volkswagen Beetle

063bug's 1963 Volkswagen Beetle New custom wiring from the USA and sound proofing to keep the road noise down.

063bug's 1963 Volkswagen Beetle Roll cage installed to add some safety for the 200HP engine with a 900KG car.... Nice power to weight ratio.

063bug's 1963 Volkswagen Beetle The car as it was when I first bought it in 1990... pretty sad state. Heaps of work was required to every part of the car as you can see. Every mudguard had damage every seat was ripped. It needed an engine that worked for starters as the old one had been destroyed due to lack of oil. The gearbox was ok though.
