Grant's 1996 Mazda MX-6 Mystere LS

I bought this car in the winte r of 2007 and have spent quite a bit of time on it.  In the summer of 2008 I threw a rod, however, didn't think that was what the problem was so I ended up without a car for a few months.  I changed the timing belt tensioner and then when that didn't fix the problem checked the oil pan and out fell some metal and such...KLZE SWAP!!!  The swap as a nightmare, not so much completing the swap, but getting the engine.

In late June we ordered an engine from JDM Source out of Calgary (bad idea), after 5 or 6 weeks of them telling us it would be in within the next few days we gave up on them and ordered out of FNF Motors in Toronto.  It ended up costing a couple hundred bucks more, but we had the engine a week or so after it was ordered.  When it got to my house I was relieved, it looked brand new, so the install started.  My dad spent alot of time helping with the swap, he pretty much did everything in 3 days, I would help for 4 or 5 hours after I put in my 8 at work.

When doing the swap I put in a Centerforce Dual Friction Racing Clutch, new water pump, timing belt, the timing belt tensioner I bought for the KLDE, new swap bar links, new axels as well as new spark plugs and such.  I think the whole swap only costed about $3000, and a lot of time.

The hardest part of the whole swap was getting the ZE into the motor mounts, we spend an hour or two trying and trying to get it in.  We were just about to quit for the day and the chain slipped and the engine dropped perfectly into the mounts.

Hey Man, nice job, the body on that car is mint! I've got a bumped fender on one side and the quarter on the other. Cheers to the ZE, she's a beautiful thing, very angry sounding little motor, even moreso with a turbo, which is my plan for my six. 5* for sure (i like the oem bumpers, nice clean look). Cheers,
