This baby was passed down from my mother to me and i plan on restoring this car as much or if possible completely. I plan on changing everything but first things first. I will be taking lots of pictures of all the areas i want to change. I know it is going to take time but i will get it done asap. First thing is a rebuilt engine and i am talking 350. big block. I know it still needs smog so i will be limited on this. Why a delta 88? Nobody works on this cars or even bothers to fix them up so I want to be one of the first who javascript:ShowImage('/member_pages/show_image.pl?image=http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/11/web/2975000-2975999/2975155_3_full.jpg')

And all this is through my own sweat unless if some person decides to help me financially. lol Next will be a transmission, and i want a 700r4 transmission. I don't know if it will fit but i will find some way to make it fit. Body is in pretty good condition with a few minor scratches here and there. Interior i am planning on a offwhite with a combintaion baby blue mix. My head liner i want it to be my countries flag(fiji) I don't know what the law states on this but if it is possible and legal, i will get that for my headliner. I want a nice custom two tone color on this car and I was thinking a candy apple green fade into a baby blue. My vinyl top will be offwhite or baby blue to match. For sound i want 4 6x9 in the back and (forgot the size of them round speakers) i want one on each door. I have taken off the rubber pieces that go around the door because i don't like the way it looks on the car. Everything under the car i intend on replacing or fixing so the bottom has no rust or what. I don't really intend on chroming the engine out but i intend to have a nice rebuilt one put in. Any help or ideas would be considered. I am brand new to the whole car restoration world and appreciate your help or ideas in making this a ONE OF A KIND 1984 OLDSMOBILE DELTA 88. I will try to keep updating this and add pictures as i change things around on my car. Oh i almost forgot, Anyone out there know how to get the most horsepower out of this car? I am looking at 400-600hp. I know it sounds crazy but if i could get 400hp on this car I would be in heaven. Also would it be a good idea to take off the catalytic converter? I have a flow master installed and want some beastly growl. Wheels i am looking at 18" torque thrust American racing wheels wrapped in michelin or Goodyear tires. I want a custom made grill that covers even the lights and that is just one piece all through the front of the car. Lights will be replaced too and i am going to get some really bright lights. I might add airbags to lower the car a lil bit but am not too sure on that. I don't want to go on dubs but get something reasonable and not too fancy. I am looking at $8000-$15000 to invest in this car. The cheaper the better if i can get good deals anywhere.

Nice project. Since your in Cali, and emissions is an issue, The 455's were not emission motors or offered in that year. Hydocarbons will be too high. Probly the best, cheapest route to the power you want, would be an Lt1 or an Ls1 setup from a forth gen f body. They are setup for your laws, and they have alot of bolt on systems to drive up the hp, and come stock with 285 and up hp. You will like the assertive power of this setup. The 700r4 will fit in, since these cars came with 200r4's and 700r4's from the factory. There is alot of budget mods like this, well within your listed money, and still be within your emission laws. I am not fully familiar with all Cali's emeission laws now, as I havent lived there in over 15 years, but the emmisions had to comply with the newest part. So a 350 or a 455 olds would not be able to be made to pass your test. Good luck with the project, and always have fun.

I don't know how many miles per gallon my truck gets but it's not good on gas at all. Less than 10 mpg I'm sure. My engine is a 360 with a 2bbl carb and dual exh. I think the mileage should be close to 12/city and 14/highway. What engine do you have in your 73?

Thanks for commenting in my guestbook for the 75 Dodge PowerWagon I'm rebuilding. Got any pics of your 73 PowerWagon? I'll do what I can to help you with your dash wiring. You have to decide if you want to buy a new harness for it or make your own. I don't know if the 73 and 75 trucks are the same for wiring. My repair manual starts at 1974, so I don't have any wiring diagrams for a 73. You'll want to get a Haynes repair manual for your truck and it will have the wiring diagrams you'll need. The harnesses I'm installing are Military truck harnesses and they are a basic harness (ie. they are missing a few connections, such as the cargo light connector.) Have any questions just ask, I'll get back to you quickly.
Nice looking Olds you're working on. Sounds like you have some good plans for it. I would keep the Olds motor and build it up. I'm sure it'll be a sweet ride whne your done with it. However it looks good now too.

A 350 is not a big block. A 350 is a small block and a 350 Olds as well as a 455 Olds will drop right in with no problems. Also Olds motors last forever. All the 455 blocks are good, and the 350's are good up to 1976, after that they started using "windowed" mains which made the block weaker, but still a strong block. If you do a 455, you will need heavy duty springs on the front suspension, and I don't know if they make them. That's why I never went with the big block. A th 400 tranny will hold that kind of power, but you are going to need a new driveshaft. the stock one is too long. You could probably cut and rebalance it, but it's old and probably rusted out, so do it right. A 455, stock has 310 HP and over 500 ft lbs of torque, trust me, you'll feel it. Most Diesal 3500 seires trucks don't even have 500 ft lbs and they can tow over 16,000 lbs. Think about how much power that is.

Don't do a Chevy motor. Compression is a lot lower and even worked it won't have the smae torque as an Olds motor has, stock. My 350 is putting out appox. 268 hp and 360 ft lbs right now. Probably the most powerful car I've ever driven
