After running my Lexus IS300 for many, many track events I began to realize that I was getting to the point where big sway bars, stiff springs and aggressive shocks may not make a lot of sense to drive to work everyday. When my kids began to complain about the stiff ride during our 5 minute commute to drop them off at school I knew it was time to so something different.
What would I want? It needed to be reasonable, trackable and fun.
Light weight - Lotus light.
Good handling.
Rear Wheel Drive.
Independent rear suspension.
Good building platform.
Capable of adding horsepower as the skills grow.
There was only one answer to this...a Datsun 240Z.

I started looking, ebay, cars.com, etc. I posted an ad on ZCar.com. A guy called me one sunday night. Turns out he was 2 miles away and had a perfect Z for me. As you can see in the pic, it needed some work. Having never even driven a Z car, I had my work cut out for me. Most of the car was disassembled. Time to start taking pictures.
Since this was going ot be a full time track car a roll cage, fuel cell and racing seats are in order.
Some body work, a little smoothing here, a little spoiler there.
As I worked on this car and researched Datsuns I was fascinated by the racing heritage and unique story of these cars. The plan evolved to build a car that looked 240Z, but has the heart of a weekly track warrior.
Arizona ZCars has some awesome suspensions parts. A set of weld in camber plates, adjustable coil over struts and springs make for a nice package.
It took a little creative leg work by the Z commnity to get the steering ujoints and adapters to tighten up the stock steering setup.
