SOME PEOPLE ASK "HOW DO I PULL THE HEAD ON A DATSUN L-SERIES?"
EASY!
Make sure, the cam is in the correct position...unlike what our Lemons Engine came like: Notice the 'Bright Link' at Position 2, while the Cam Locating Dowel is in Position 1! No wonder we found #3 Intake Valve bent so far it snapped off the snout of it's guide!

There are 14 10mm Allen Headed Bolts arrayed around the cam towers. The need to come out.

There are two little itty-bitty, covered in grunge so you forget about them and snap their teats off M6 bolts up front that need to come out. This is a finger pointing to where one should be.

Before you get to frisky, it's always a good idea to stick the timing chain tensioner tool down into the front cover, unless you REALLY like the chain tensioner falling out, and then pulling the front cover off to reinstall it and retime the cam...

Remove the bolt holding the cam sprocket. Yeah, I know, it's missing it's washer. It's how I got it. It's Lemons. What do you think I'm going to do, go
FIND a washer for the damn thing? Hell no, it was late, and we still had work to do! It's 19mm, and Ian told me it goes on with 40 Ft-Lbs of torque, so all the ones I torqued to 109 Ft-Lbs must be really super-secure and won't come off...

Then you 'PULL THE HEAD' simple, eh?

A convienient place to put the head after you remove it is on your fender...

So you can climb down off the fenders!
"REVERSE FOR REINSTALLATION!"
This is Ian cleaning up the head for reinstallation. Why he's doing it is a testament to his Anal Tendencies. Do you know we put a Double Car Cover on this thing each night? Like dew would hurt it. Then again, we don't want people stealing our good stuff, eh? Like trim pieces or maybe the stereo...

This is the "Poor Mans Porting" in #3...that's the valve guide snapped off and sitting on the valve stem.

See? No obstructions to flow! This increased flow will make up for the cam lobe on the #5 Intake that is going flat and is loosing around 0.035" of valve lift. I figure it all balances itself out, right? That's what I'm telling myself anyway. What do you want---IT'S LEMONS!
Oh, and for those who think this is some sort of "Ringer" Engine, here are some shots of our "Special High Performance Dish-Top Pistons"
