cdiedricks 1989 Chevrolet Camaro

I always liked these cars. My brother had an 83 Trans AM, which I thought was cool, and 18 years later, I would own a 3rd generation F-Body as well. Looked long for a car, but was on a budget. I found a lot of imitation IROC's out there, and I was getting frustrated. I finally found this one, I was at that point where I didn't care, I was going to buy it, and CHA CHING. Its mine, proud owner of an 89 IROC-Z equipped with a 350 TPI and a 700R4 automatic. I bought her in June of 2001.

The guy I bought it from, had plans for it, but also had a kid on the way, so it had to go. He had to get a title for it since it was theft recovery. THAT SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME NOT TO BUY IT THEN. I got the car, and the extra parts for $3500. Too much, yes, did I care at this point, no. Blew some smoke on start up, I test drove it, and it was fine. He put a windshield in it, and it also had headers, an aluminum driveshaft, true dual exhaust, he claimed that it had larger injectors in it, they have obviously been replaced, but I can't really speak for them. Driving it home, I questioned the tranny. A couple of weeks later, there I was under this damned thing, yanking the tranny. It was a total bitch, but I finally got her out.

I am going to sell it, no I can't, keeping it, selling it, keeping it. You know how it goes. I wanted money, but the car is so fun to drive. Those F-body's have an effect on some of us, and we can't part with them. I am going to paint the car come spring time. Make her look totally stock, and do some more performance upgrades. Someday, an LS1, but for now, I will just get all of the life out of the 350 TPI

I can't complain. It's a true IROC. 16" wheels, four wheel disc brakes, T-tops, 350 TPI, I will add more pics soon, and then I will post a summary of my painting experience. The body is pretty straight, no rust, just has dull paint. The interior is almost mint, and it rins like a champ. Basically I want the ultimate sleeper. AKA Look stock, HAUL ASS!!!!!!!! Just need to figure out what else I am going to do to the engine. Hypertech chip, Aluminum heads, supercharger are all in my head. Will be interesting.

UPDATE 4/3/05
CAR IS NOW PAINTED, NEW HEADLINER IS ORDERED, NEW TEMP GAUGE, NEW DECALS HAVE BEEN ORDERED. YEAH, I KNOW, I LOVE THIS DAMN CAR, SO I GAVE IT TO MY WIFE AND I WILL BE DROPPING LOTS OF CASH INTO IT, HEADS WILL BE REDONE. STAY TUNED FOR PICS AND TIME SLIPS
