After i tried to repair the dent in the fender, i tried to touch up the paint to match. All it would do was lift when i sprayed the primer. I opted to take the entire car down to bare metal and start over. I don't have any pictures of the mess it made but it was a huge one. While i was scraping and sanding off the old layers i found that my "solid" car had some hidden flaws. After chipping outgobs of bondo in the rear of the door sills i found rust. The rot continued on along the bottom edge of both rear quarters.
I cut out all the bad metal and MIG welded in new fabricated panels. This was the only place in the car that was rusted through. Since the hood had a nasty ding in it and i always wanted a car with a scoop, i picked up a fiberglass unit and grafted it onto the steel hood(bought a backup)capturing the flange between the inner and outer hood layers. Glassing in the scoop was a hassle but it came out pretty fair.
