Meet my 1969 Bug. She ain't much to look at right now, but I have plans on making it a nice Cal-Looker with a 2056cc Type 4 engine. I was influenced by the look of the custom VWs called the Cal-Look.
Generally the Cal-Look features a lowered front suspension (to give the car a rake), narrow front tires (usually 135SR15 or 145SR15 tires), and a healthy engine to get around. The Look has evolved over the years since it was first identified in the mid-'70s, as the early Cal-Look Bugs usually had the body trim removed and filled in, bumpers removed and replaced with small t-bars, and one-piece door windows to remove the vent wing glass. Modern Cal-Look Bugs keep the body basically stock with the trim, lights, and bumpers in place. Both variations give the Bug a purposeful yet understated look.
Now that you are familiar with the Cal-Look, I can tell you that I'm building this Bug to follow the modern Cal-Look. My Cal-Look will feature EMPI Sprint Stars (modified to be 4" wide in the front and 6" wide in the back), 145SR15 tires in the front and 205/65R15s in the rear.
Here's my BugSelecta rendition of how it will look like when it's done:
