This is my Gutlass Cutlass. I bought it when I was stationed at Fort Hood, TX from someone who found it in a salvage yard. The following 2 years were spent pouring blood sweat and tears into the car to keep it running. My good friend (big brother) did most of the work. I was his gofer.
The body was in great condition but the car had an engine fire and was toasted. The engine and transmission were both scrapped. The donor car for the engine was an Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser. The Gutlass Cutlass now boasts a handsome 6.6 liter (403 cu.in.) power plant. It has 9:1 Keith Blacks, a 502 lift cam (Summit made by Crane I think), an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, Comp Cam push rods, Carter 650 CFM carb, Mallory ignition coil, Accel ignition module, Jegs Hot Power plug wires, and a Summit vacuum canister to allow the power brakes to work. This Killer rides atop a TH350 with a B&M stage II shift kit (the best money you can put in any car). This beast breaths through 2 3" straws with an H-pipe and a pair of 3 chamber Flowmasters.
Because of the angle at which the engine sets, I had to cut a hole in the hood to allow the air cleaner to fit. I tried to add a low rise hood scoop to the stock hood. The bondo and fiberglass resin kept cracking and I finally purchased the fiberglass hood.
Most recently, I was able to find an 8 1/2" Grand National rear end. It is stock with the 343 gears. But that is still better than my previous 7 1/2" 272s. I also changed the Speedo so it reads up to 160 MPH (I’ve never even been close) and added a matching 5" tach. I had them cut into the dash where the stock ones went. They look good, but the speedo is off by like 30% (I'm working on it).
The paint is piss poor, but I probably won't have it painted again for a couple of years. The guy who painted it turned out to be a hack job. And I paid through the nose for the crappie job too.
This car is sooooo much fun to drive. The t-tops are in good shape and seal well but the windshield is not sealed properly and the door trim needs to be replaced (I am working on that too). It seems never to get done though. I will update and add pics of the engine bay.
