Purchased as a part of a spirit week competition project this 1974 VW Beetle underwent a thorough restoration. Money was collected from and the beetle bought by the Class of 2008 at Haddonfield Memorial High School. With help from a crew of skilled and unskilled workers the whole restoration job, save the engine, was completed in the space of one weekend. Work commenced just an hour after purchase of the rolling chassis.
The project as a whole was a success, with the Class of 2008 taking first place in the hallway-decorating contest. (Yes, the car was pulled, by class members, up a ramp and into the school. It was given its final roof paint scheme once inside, and then squeezed in a 15+ minute process around a corner and into the hallway.) Currently the beetle sits in the center courtyard of HMHS awaiting a home for the winter. Needless to say school administration are not happy, but since it won't fit out the front gates, and the steering wheel and key are in possession of the students the bug isn't going anywhere fast.
