7-31-08 I just got the EDGE Performance Programmer for just under $400 on eBay. I have yet to take advantage of the performance abilities of this unit due to the fact that I still have half a tank of 87 octane fuel and it require s at least 91 octane. It was pretty neat to mess with.
It all pretty much starts where you open your driver door.

Pull off the rubber water sealant on the door opening where that gray side panel is.

Plug in the OBDII interface that came in the box.

Run the wire up through the opening made where the panel was removed and tuck it in front of the window pillar. Be sure to leave about 8 inches for connectivity.

Button up your panel and replace the rubber stripping. Be sure to tie the wire securely anywhere behind the panel to keep it from drooping.

Place the custom install pod just above the air vent. You will need to press down and push back a little firmly to stiffen it into place. There's a little "L" bracket with sticky tape on it. It's your choice where and if you want to use it, I put it in after placing the install pod so I won't have to do all the measuring.

In the box comes a rubber holder for the programmer. Put it in the opening of the install pod and press it into place. Be sure to conform it to the opening of the pod.

Connect the 8-pin interface to the programmer.

After connectivity, push the programmer into place. You may want to place a firm grip on the pod as to not shift it. After start up, a disclaimer is displayed. It goes away after you've turned your truck on and off 5 times.

This is it, with it's buddies...My RPM gauge, spedometer, other gauges, GPS, and DVD head unit.

This is everything in the dark. Looks pretty neat, and a lot brighter than this picture tells.

I haven't yet played with the performance part of this module, but I've played with the display, color, and my 0-60 time. Turns out my truck is slower than my stop watch measured 8 months ago. It hit from stop to 60 mph in 9.48 seconds. Yeah, I gotta work on that.
Luckily I got my K&N Cold Air Intake in. It has tons of little parts and stuff. I had a 2002 Tacoma PreRunner that I traded in for this truck. The K&N Intake was much more simple. This one reuired the relocation of the throttle body and mass air flow sensor. Also the tube (for I think it was the heat exchange) had to be replaced because it had locking clip ends that wouldn't fit on the male hose connector. Fortunately a rubber hose was proveded. It needed to be shortened so it wouldn't twist itself anywhere, but it was a neat install. Took about just over an hour because I forgot to install the throttle gasket on the angle bracket. Also I needed a drill and some other tools that required searching for. All in all this was pretty adventurous. The instruction manual provides many images for install so I didn't take much.
This is my stock intake. It's pretty much like this on all the 5.4L V8 Ford motors on newer trucks.

I had just disconnected all the connectors (for the mass air flow sensor, throttle motor connector, throttle placement sensor, and the heat exchange) and throttle body, and installed the angle adaptor and the throttle body.

This is it complete. It looks pretty neat.

And this is it in the entire engine bay.

After installing this mod, I actually gained about 0.11 seconds on my 0 to 60 mph time. Now I'm at like 9.37s and this is still at 87 octane fuel. In the next few days I will run my truck again with 91 octane and maybe some octane booster. I'll tune the programmer for a greater fuel injection, and see what I get then!!
My rear tailgate brake light stopped. It's all LED, my 3rd brake light and both tail lights.

My rear tailgate brake light in reverse. My tail lights are still plain bulbs, nice and bright like I need them.

08-02-08 Okay so I filled my tank with 91 octane fuel. Ran my truck for about 20 miles before I programmed it for level 3 performance to make sure all the old 87 was out of my fuel lines and injectors. I ran my 0-60mph at 11:54pm, about 89 degrees farenheit outside air temperature, close to the other times ran, and I made it a little faster. It shifts higher, 1st to 2nd gear at 45mph and 5500rpm instead of at 38mph at 4700rpm.
***87 octane, 98 deg f outside air, stock pcm (stock everything) ran 0-60 in 9.56sec.
***87 octane, 93 deg f outside air, stock pcm (no K&N CAI) ran 0-60 in 9.48sec.
***87 octane, 92 deg f outside air, stock pcm ran 0-60 in 9.37sec.
***91 octane, 98 deg f outside air, stock pcm ran 0-60 in 9.32sec.
***91 octane, 87 deg f outside air, lvl 3 cal ran 0-60 in 8.71sec.
09-01-08 I did something a little different today with my 0-60 recording. I did a brake-start at 1700RPMs at 88 deg f outside air temperature and accoring to my programmer, I ran from 0mph to 60mph in 8.49 seconds. So from stock with 87 octane fuel I gained 1.07 seconds on my 0-60 time with 91 octane fuel, a performance programmer, a cold air intake system, and an upgraded exhaust system. I'm gonna take my truck out to the track one night to see how my 0-60 time and 1/4 mile time officially run.
09-02-08 I tried my brake start this morning at about 5:20am, outside air temperature was 72 deg f. With a brake-start at 1900RPMs, I pulled my 0-60 in 7.76 seconds. I'm kinda excited, hopefully soon I'll have the time to hit up the drag strip and show some numbers on paper.
10-07-08 Brake-start @ 1900RPMs, 64 deg f., 0-60mph @ 7.63 seconds.
12-10-08 Brake-start @ 1800RPMs, 47 deg f., 0-60mph @ 7.41 seconds. Tonight was actually an interesting night. On the way home from a wedding some Jeep Cherokee (older generation with the I6 4.0L) tried to pass me up. He floored it at 50mph and accelerated, then I floored it at the same speed. I caught up to him and eventually passed him up. I think we were going about 85mph by this time, totally made my day. The other night an older Impala SS tried to dust me, but fortunately for me he was riding really small tires. We hit the pedal hard at about 25mph, truck went from 2nd to 1st til 45mph, then to second, and the entire time I was just inching ahead of him until we got to 70mph, then he was about 6 cars behind me or so. Last Friday I just smoked little Civics. I swear, I love this programmer, but I will one day be upgrading to a supercharger after I upgrade my tires and tint the windows.
