darklikepoe's 1977 Datsun 280Z1977 DATSUN 280Z

I don't know how many folks owned this car before me, but it doesn't matter. It's a piece. I got it for $600 and, while it runs and drives just fine, it needs help. Not unlike a cheap floozie, this has been passed between friends, ridden hard, and then left out. I have no maintenance records on the car, and of course, the odometer only reads 5 digits. I approach this project with cautious optimism.

darklikepoe's 1977 Datsun 280Z Behold the vaunted L28E. From the factory, this puppy produced 170hp @ 5600 RPM and 177 ft/lbs @ 4400 RPM. Given that the car only weighs about 2650 lbs, it goes. It has a power to weight ratio of 15.6 lbs / HP, putting it between the 11.1 lbs / HP of the FD3S and 18.0 lbs / HP of the S13. It's not a dragster, but it keeps up just fine.

This page will be organized based on steps taken to improve the car.
