DEPLOYMENT FROM HELL!!!! March 2002 to October 2003
Well, Osama Bin Laden really put a kink in my plans. I was off to shore duty in early 2002. Three years of relaxation in the Navy, Exactly what shore duty is supposed to be. In reality, We were at war and my shore duty was the first military caualty. I was deployed to Guantanamo Bay, CUBA for a little over a year. We had to establish the Detention Camps, Security, and a functional command in GTMO. My beloved Thunderbird sat in my parents Garage the whole time. I finally came home just in time for winter of 2003. No racing for you.....Thats good cause I blew the head gaskets out of the block running the motor lean. That gave me some time to add a cage, good axels and the official safety stuff I needed to run that fast and get a motor together. I also needed to fix the "Lean" condition, and that meant a big dollar fuel system. -10AN is similar to a garden hose I find out....AND F'N expensive.
DAMN WOMEN,I finally find someone for longer than a night. WTF is going on? I kinda like her more than my T-Bird, but wait racing season is in a few more months and that may change. Gotta get the car together. I built a 2000 hp style of fuel system. Very similar to what they use in PRO 5.0 Fuel Cell, two -10AN fuel pumps, billet -8AN regulator, fuel rails, three inline filters. What the hell was I thinking??? Who knows but now I can build a 514 BB Ford with 16 Injectors and run it on alcohol if I want. No more lean cause the sump cannot pick up fuel. The only problem is that I cannot lean it out enough to make it run like it did before. I added enough NITROUS OXIDE to split the block once, blew the rearend up, smoked two AOD's and watched my bank account disappear. The car now runs 6.60's in the 1/8th or 11.60's in the 1/4. It should run down in the 10.60's range but I just cannot tune it properly to run correctly. Here is some picks of it launching at Mobile Dragway in Irvington, AL in 2004. Please check out the video of the 2004 season. My buddies and I made up a "FAKE" racing group and had lots of fun racing the T-Bird. I also applied for the Pump Gas Drags in 2004 hoping to get a shot to blow the rods out of the pan but, NO JOY.
Uncle Sam Tells me.....Move to Hawaii!!!!!
For Three months, Hawaii was the greatest thing that I have ever done. Guess what the Dragstrip closes and NO MORE FUN. I am in the process of grafting in a new painless wiring harness for the motor and re-wiring the electrical system. A new ferry system opened in Hawaii that gives me the opportunity to Race on Maui and I will see what happens in the near future. 12.70's here I come with no NITROUS OXIDE until I get the car tuned properly and then just add some chemical horses. I will give it a go here soon with some 19 lb/hr injectors with 65lbs of fuel pressure and see if that will fix my rich condition on the low end. I'll keep you all posted.....DALLAS.
