Racing As a Kid:
I started racing motorcycles when I was 7 years old. I did all kinds of racing... motocross, flat track, grass drags, and more. I have taken 4th in the AMA 50cc class in 1999 for flat track racing, taken 1st in several grass drag race events, and I took 2nd in my first ever motocross event. However, I stopped racing when I was 11 because I rolled a four-wheeler off a 50' cliff. After the first 15', the cliff angled out a little and I started rolling it. My dad said I held on for the first four rolls before I got pinned between two trees. The four-wheeler kept rolling down the cliff and ended up upside down in a stream with a cracked gas tank bent handlebars and a slightly tweaked frame (I was later told it was about $800 in damage). Despite the fact that I wasn't wearing a helmet, I didn't break any bones but I got a nice cut right down the side of my face that just barely missed my eye. Fortunatly, I don't have a scar across my face. I stopped riding for the next 2 years, but then started up again when I was 13. I still ride dirt bikes a little today, but yet somehow I still feel safer on 4 wheels.
As I got closer to getting my drivers license, my dad kept telling me all kinds of stories of cars he had when he was a teenager... 66 GTO that would run 12.000 flat in the 1/4 mile, 67 Camaro with a BBC that would spin through first, second, and third gear, and several race only cars that he built with some friends. When I finally obtained my drivers license, I immediately signed up for a local autocross. I was using my Dad's Dodge Dakota Sport Quad Cab for the first half of the season and become addicted to RWD and the power of the almighty V8. This made the choice of my first vehicle easy... AMERICAN MUSCLE! After a couple weeks of searching, I found the car I now own, a 1987 Chevy Camaro IROC-Z.
Beginning of My Automobile Racing (2007):
The above pictures are from my first autocross in my Camaro. Sadly I came in 10th out of 13 people. That's mostly because I was used to racing my Dad's Dodge Dakota Sport Quad-Cab... major height difference, and in body roll, and in braking, and in power... (me racing my Dad's truck below). Despite how bad the truck was suited for that racing I was still able to beat some Corvettes and BMWs on PAX index.
Even with a change of vehicle half way through the season, I still managed to finish 9th place out of 26 people in my class. I think that is very respectable considering it was my first year racing, but more importantly I only started driving cars just months before the season ended. TAKE THAT ALL YOU INSURANCE COMPANIES... NOT ALL MALE TEENAGERS ARE BAD DRIVERS WHO CONSTANTLY GET INTO ACCIDENTS! (Sorry about that, but as I'm sure you can guess... my insurance rates are high)
Racing in 2008:
Unfortunatly I can't say for sure how well I did in regards to the others in my class(es) because I switched classes in the middle of the season. Oh well, atleast it performed better becuase of the upgrades.
Here are some pictures of a 1972 Stingray I got a ride in. That thing really puts my car to shame... it is amazing! Other then the body (except hood) and chassis, nothing on this car is stock. To bad my head sticks through the roof. Just to give you an idea of how bad it is for me, I'm about 4" taller then the owner/driver of the car. Maybe it is just how he mounted his seats...
Racing in 2009:
I have to get a couple more things installed and then I'm ready to start next season. Can't wait!
