Engine Rebuild and Mods
UPDATE 7/14/09 - Still waiting on the machine shop. Just ordered my FMS 24# injectors. Got them off ebay. The are remanufactured but have a 4 pintle instead of a single and have a lifetime warranty. $156.99 not bad at all. All new rubber o rings and filters and painted. I received my trans temp guage. Looking like the push rods, SCT, guage pod, spark plugs, and new O2 senor probably are about the only things I need to get.
UPDATE 6/25/09 - Talked to the machine shop yesterday. Guy said it will be a couple more weeks. I never knew it took 7 months to bore and build a short block. I hope its only a couple weeks and not months. Lets just say I'm not happy that its taking so long. Just ordered my trans temp guage. Only a few more parts needed till everything is bought and ready to go on.
UPDATE 5/15/09 - Still waiting on the machine shop. I ordered a new thrust plate, valve cover grommets, AND the Hughes FI Airgap today. Pretty excited that I bit the bullet and placed the order
UPDATE 5/3/09 - Still waiting on the machine shop. I have decided to add FMS 24# injectors to the build. I also picked up a Summit Multi Spark box and high volt coil.
UPDATE 3/12/09 - Talked to the machine shop on Friday. Turns out some of the pistons and bores are out of size. It is going to be bored .030 over and new pistons. It well then actually be a 365. I'm happy things are moving along. The shop has had my block for over 2 months. I am planing on getting the Hughes Air Gap intake. I was gonna order it this week but with the new found problems it is getting pushed off till after the short block is done. Need to see if funds permit me to get it right away.
In July I decided to tear into the engine to find the ongoing mis-fire I was having. I assumed it was either a bad plenum gasket or a cracked head. I ordered a Hughes Plenum Pan Reinforcement Kit (which can be found here http://www.hughesengines.com/Index/products.php?partid=22220). I also planed on pulling the heads and replacing them with a set of HD EQ Iron heads. After tearing it down and seeing how close I was to the cam I decided to swap that as well. I went with a Comp 264HR-12 Cam (its part # 20-604-9). I should mention that when he heads were removed I found gashes in my pistons. I have no idea how they got there. When the stock cam was removed I found that a couple of the cam bearings where chewed up the #4 bearing was the worst. After discovering that I decided to pull the engine and rebuild it. I wasn't gonna take the chance of something farther down letting lose and destroying my new parts. The engine is currently at the machine shop waiting clean up and checking along with the pistons and crank.
