Overview

This is my 1999 Ford Ranger Sport. I purchased it from LaFontaine Chevrolet with 67,500 miles and it runs great. It has the 241 CID MPI OHV V6 (175 hp, 240 ft/lbs.) with the 5 speed overdrive transmission. It has the push-button 4 wheel drive chassis set-up with a rear limited-slip differential. Its an extended cap pick-up with the flare-side bed and a bed cover. Its also equipped with the factory towing package and off-road package (stiffer springs, heavy duty shocks, 16" wheels, 31" tires, rear limited-slip).

Current After-Market Mods and Updates

- Dynomax Cat-Back Exhaust

I replaced the system because 1. The stock system was leaky and 2. the stock system work good for the 2.3L and the 3.0L but the 4.0L seems to disagree with Fords economical production engineering. The cats have 2.25" pipe but the rest is in 2". The kit continues the system in 2.25", which really opened up the 4.0L and there is very noticeable gains from this system. 1. The exhaust note sounds GREAT!!! 2. You don't have to dig in more than a 1/3rd of the throttle to get up to 55 mph in a reason manner, which saves gas.

- Bosch Platinum 4 Spark plug set and Bosch 8mm wires

- Engine Oil and Transmission Fluid Coolers.

The oil cooler allows the engine to run more efficiently by cooling the oil to let the engine run at an over-all cooler temp. The transmission cooler also allows the transmission to run more efficiently. They also say decreasing the Trans. Fluid temp by as little as 15~20*F will extend you transmission life by 40~50%.

- K&N Fuel Injection Performance Intake

Gives the truck great throttle response (no soggy areas within the whole rpm range) and a little horsepower/torque boost.

Mods to Come in the Future

- Go to synthetic oil

- Make Custom Front Skid Plate

- Tires

I want to upgrade from B.F. Goodrich Long Trails to B.F. Goodrich All-Terrains when the time comes for new tires.

- Minor Suspension Lift

I would like to do a 2~3" suspension lift on my Ranger in the future. It has a decent stance as it is now but it is a little bit too low. I don't want anything ridiculous but enough of a lift to do some moderate off-roadin'.

Awesome Truck, mean and looks ready for some major off-roadin action or car crushing mahem, what's next for it? I have a Dodge, it would not do very well at car crushing or off-roadin, even with the mods I have done.
