1/15/2010: Floor pans are in, engine and trans are in, wiring is being done now, but I need a new dash since I had a fire due to an ember hitting the insulation on the dash
11/28/09: floor pans going on this week, engine bay primed this past tuesday, the rest of the body is being sanded down and should be able to be primed this week also, after the flr pans are in then I will move onto painting the engine bay and putting the engine and trans in. followed by suspension and brake upgrades, hoping to be done with all of this except paint by Christmas, should be too hard just need to devote time and a little money. Also should be putting in the 4th gen rear while doing the suspension, By when all is said and done I should be pushing around 400+ hp and 425+ tq, I can't wait to drive this thing again, don't get me wrong my 4th gen is fun and everything, but I miss daily driving my 86
UPDATE: 1/16/09, I will soon start the body work once my 98 is done and out of the garage and into another. It wont be too soon tho.(Check out my 98 TA for more info )
My first car that me, myself, and I paid for, for $1200. It is a 305 TPI with 700r4 trans and a 2.73 rear end. The engine is still VERY strong. It just flys in WOT going down a street and I can get around some curves at 50 mph, even a little higher if no one around. I love the feeling of getting pushed back in my seat. I have put about $3600 in it so far for the normal 23 year car. I plan for a paintjob, weatherstripping, 3.42 rearend, 4th gen(93-96) center console, triple gauge pillar pod, some audio stuff, and some other small things.
I had a 1986 firebird and went to some salvage yard to get an engine and trans for it. The guy pointed to the black(the car I bought) and said you can buy the engine and trans out of this car for $700 and the shop the shop down the street with put them in for $600. Or you can buy thie whole car tax title fee Done for $1500. After thinking about it for a minute Isaid I'll buy it. I traded in the '86 firebird for $300.
