1974 THE LAST AMBASSADOR. THIS AMBO WAS LOVINGLY CALLED THE COFFIN NOSE AMBO. THE MATADOR SEDANS HAD THE SAME COFFIN NOSE. THE AMBASSADOR NAME WAS FIRST USED IN 1936 BY NASH. THE NAME LASTED 38 YEARS.

79/80 AMC SPIRIT DL. ALL DRESSED UP WITH STRIPES AND COLOR KEYED WHEEL COVERS, BUMPER TRIMS AND MORE. REALLY A NICE CAR.

THE AMC "EAGLES" FOUR WHEEL DRIVE 1980. THEY FIRST CAME WITH QUADRA-TRAC WHICH WAS A EXPENSIVE FULL TIME FOUR WHEEL DRIVE SETUP. MANY OF THE HIGH PRICED SUV's OF TODAY USE THIS STYLE OF FOUR WHEEL DRIVE. THERE WERE TWO MORE NOT SHOWN IN THIS PICTURE THE KAMBACK AND THE S/X 4.

THIIS IS THE AMERICAN MOTORS ENGINEERING BUILDING IN DETROIT MI. THIS IS WHERE ALL THE PROTOTYPES AND ALL THE AMC ENGINEERING WAS DONE. WHEN CHRYSLER AQUIRED AMC CHRYSLER KEPT 75 % OF THE AMC's DETROIT WORK FORCE.

ROY ABERNETHY SEPT 29 1906 / FEB 28 1977. WHEN GEORGE ROMNEY LEFT AMC IN 62 TO RUN FOR GOVERNOR OF MICHIGAN. ROY ABERNETHY WAS APPOINTED COO OF AMC. HE DECIDED THAT AMC SHOULD COMPETE WITH THE BIG THREE AUTO MAKERS MODEL FOR MODEL. HE HAD THE TARPON PUT ON A CLASSIC CHASSIS AND CALLED IT A MARLIN. INSTEAD OF COMPETING IN THE UPCOMING PONY CAR CLASS HE WANTED TO COMPETE WITH THE TBIRD AND RIVERIA. THE MARLIN WAS A FAILURE. AMC NEVER RECOVERED THE TOOLING COST. HE DID NOT WANT THE RAMBLER NAME AND HE HAD THE RAMBLER NAME SLOWLY REMOVED FROM THE CARS. BIG MISTAKE,THE RAMBLER NAME WAS KNOWN THE WORLD OVER. IN 64 AND 65 ABERNETHY SPENT SIXTY MILLION DOLLARS ON RETOOLING FOR HIS NEW AND BIGGER CARS. HE WIPED OUT MOST ALL OF AMC's CASH RESERVES. THE AMC DIRECTORS IN JAN 1967 FORCED ABERNETHY TO TAKE EARLY RETIREMENT. HE WAS REPLACED BY ROY D CHAPIN Jr. AMC FLOUNDERED FOR YEARS AFTER ABERNETHY.
