It WAS alive, an ice storm in indiana froze the motor. Moisture had gotten into the oil pump and when I tried starting it again, my red top Optima battery twisted the oil pump shaft, broke 1 tooth off the cam, and broke half the teeth off of the oil pump drive. When the engine did start, there was no oil pressure and I toased EVERY bearing in the engine. I got another short block for free and I finally got it installed and running (9-30-09). I have over 200 miles on the rebuild and I'm working the bugs out of it.
Anyway, this is a page about my 1989 Cavalier z-24, blue/silver ext. gray int. the pic is of my friend and i rebuilding the motor. this car has had some "interesting" things happen to it the past year. my friend had bought the car, drove it for awhile and then wanted a new car so he sold it to his brother. he had it for a couple of months before he hit a deer with it. so i bought it, fixed it and sold it to my sister. she had it several months and then the oil pump went out, locked up the motor. she gave it back to me and i was able to find a 3.1 for dirt cheap. i have rebuilt the motor and painted it gm corporate blue with the raised areas on the valve covers and intake polished.
