~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 12/20/07-Vent Accents I bought some paint pens from Wal-Mart and decided to paint around my vents. I wanted to do something different than just paint my vents so I decided to accent around them. I have done the two outside ones and I still have to do the middle ones. I should have that done by tommorrow.
Installation Tips-Just take your time with the paint pens. I didn't have to tape the vents in order to do this and taping would have taken alot longer. Just be precise with the paint pens and it will turn out fine!
These are the paint pens I bought from Wal-Mart.
I simply "rolled" the vents out to give me some room to paint. Here is a shot of my vent taken out and it painted.
I started out just doing the bottom door piece, the lock holder and the area around the door handle. I then taped off all the areas and the paper pretty much covered my entire door panel. After lightly sanding with 2000 grit sandpaper and wiping the areas off with rubbing alcohol, I began to coat the areas I wanted painted. I let them dry for around 30 minutes or so and then removed the tape. The whole process took around an hour and half and I am very happy with the turn out. Tommorrow, I plan on buying a black and a white pen to clean up my painting and I will also be painting the areas around my vents with white.
Installation Tips-I was very nervous about painting my car's interior. However, with a little time and patience, you can easily do this project yourself. Don't try and cram all the painting into one day. Take it slow and focus on each piece. Also, do a little light sanding and wash the area clean with rubbing alcohol. And the most important part of all...LIGHT COATS!!! Use many, many light coats and let each coat dry before adding on to the next piece. This will prevent running and insure that you will get a nice, even paint job.
My trusty Krylon Fusion paint and my other handyman, Scotch Blue painters tape.
I recently bought some paint pens and touched up the edges of my accents. It was hard to tape off and some overspray got on the edges. I simply took a black paint pen and ran it along the outside of the door handle accents and it really cleaned it up.
Here are the pens that I used.
This is how the door handle accents look after I painted around the outside to cover the overspray.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 11/23/07-System My friend got some new subs and he let me have this Jensen 10 inch. The sub is average sounding (better than I thought from a Jensen) but the box is incredible. Very well built and the two ports on top give a great bass sound. Plus, the plexiglass front protects the sub from all the crap I stow in my trunk. This sub is only temporary until I get more money. Then I plan to buy a MTX or Alpine 10' and put it in the same box. All I had to do was buy a wiring kit from Wal-Mart and, since I already had the Sony Xplod amp from my old truck, wire up the amp and connect it to the sub. All in all, it took about 30 minutes and cost me 25 bucks for the wiring kit. It was a good days work.
Installation Tips- Make sure not to pinch any wires when you go start to hide them. I almost cut my remote turn-on wire in two when I hid it under the plastic underneath the door. Just take your time and don't pull anything! If it's stuck, stop and work your way back to figure out what the wire is catching on. Also, double check to see if the power wire is made to support the amount of watts your amp needs. I was about to be cheap and save money when buying my amp wiring kit by getting one that held less watts but it's not worth it. Get the one that is made for the amount of power you are running because if not, you will have a much bigger problem on your hands. I guarantee that it will cost alot more to fix fire damage than to spend the few extra dollars and get the right wiring kit.
Here is the power wire running from the battery and through the firewall.

11/22/07-Gauge Lay-overs
I bought these off ebay for about 15 bucks and I thought they would look good on my car. They were not too hard to install, except for the fact that they kept bending up where the needles poked through. The gauges would make contact with the needles and prevent them from moving. So, I took some handy double-stick tape and made a nice, sticky ring around each and every needle hole. That did the trick; the gauges now lay nice and flat and all my needles work perfectly. It was so worth the time and it didn't cost me that much.
Installation Tips-These were quite a pain to install. You have to be so precise with the placement as to not disrupt the needles movement. After all, they are only over-lays. I installed these at first and all my needles would not move, do to the new gauges pressing against them. Anyways, I would recommend putting some adhesive(such as Superglue or double-stick tape)around the holes were the needles go. This will prevent the gauges from rising up around the holes(thats what happened to me) and allow them to sit flush to the stock gauges. Hope that helps anyone trying to add new gauges!
My car with the gauges and dash panel removed. Gosh, it's nasty under there.
Putting the adhesive behind the gauges to stop the needles from hitting. It was cold outside so I did it in the kitchen.
The gauges almost completed and me wiring up the backlights to my existing headlight switch.
Almost done.
Finished product at night

11/18/07-6.5 Dual Front Speakers
I returned some things at Wal-Mart and got some store credit of about 22 bucks. Naturally, I went to the car audio section and saw these speakers on sale for 28 dollars and I could not resist. I know they are not top of the line but anything was better than my stock speakers. So yeah, speakers for 6 bucks was a pretty good deal to me. They were a little hard to install though; the magnet kept hitting the window and I could not roll the window down. After much thinking and cursing, I got my dad to lend me a hand and we discovered a way to secure them while still preserving my windows freedom. All in all, so worth it and they sound great...for Duals.
Installation Tips- Door speakers can sometimes be tricky. I installed these at first and they looked great, until I rolled my window down and the larger magnet stopped the window from rolling down. So, before you get excited about finishing a door speaker install, make sure to check if the window still rolls down before putting all your panels back on. Trust me, if you do this, much time will be saved and much less cursing will occur.

10/26/07-LED Interior Lights
My friend gave me about 12 blue LED interior lights and I decided to put them in. I wired them up to my driving light switch through the headlight controls so I can dim the lights from the same control from which I dim my dash. I like them, they look great and the whole installation only cost me about an hour of my time.
Installation Tips- I used to wire up electronics in my old truck by adding switches whenever I wanted another accessory. This was a stupid way to go about it. Since most interior lights in a car are only meant to be seen at night, wire them up to the stock running light switch. This is a much cleaner and safer way to install and since this switch is already protected by a fuse, there is no risk of a fire. Plus, its easier, doesn't involve a drill and it looks alot cleaner.
This is one of the lights, before install.
Some shots of the front, with the lights installed.
I also put lights facing the back seats and these are some views from the backseat.
They are not much, but they add a nice touch and made a very easy/cheap mod. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The interior of my car is very clean, for a used car. No tears or rips and it doesn't look half bad. I have done some few minor mods but again, I have only had the car a few weeks.
The pedals I put on
New Sony head unit
New tuner shifter knob
Clean view from the back
And of the sunroof...
