The sound system was installed in consultation with Aspen Sound. Exceptional sound in stock holes
The sound is now finished and has the following components:
An Alpine CDA-9885 AM/FM CD/MP3/WMA/AAC Receiver
First I mounted ECH130 100watt speakers in the rear and fitted them into the stock BMW premium speaker cabinets. You cannot tell these are not the stock speakers until the sound comes out. Then there is a confused look on the listener's face that basically says "where is that sound coming from?"
In the front I mounted the Hertz ESK 130 - 150watt system with the their tweeters mounted in the stock m3 tweeter pods, and the main lower midrange speakers in the lower stock holes.
The Hertz ESK's are two part speakers, with the Tweeters and Woofer/midrange speakers separated and hooked into the sound system with resisters. This separates the sound frequencies and gives a better acoustical feel.
Other than the tailtale sight of the "Hertz" logo's from the OEM tweeter holes, the system is absolutely stock looking, which was my intent. Note the nice fit with the Hertz adapter rings into the OEM tweeter holes.
I took my Bazooka out and instead went to CarToys and bought a nice box and a new JBL GT5-10 Woofer. Better sound and doesn't roll around. Note the Optima battery, which involved cutting out the battery cover to fit it in. The JBL GT5 was the best sound I could find for this app. It has the following specs.: 1100-Watt 10-inch Single 4-Ohm GT Series SubwooferGeneral Features: Polypropylene Woofer Cone, Hi-Roll Rubber Surround, I-Beam Basket Progressive Spider, Proprietary Steel Frame, Specifications: Frequency Response: 30 Hz - 500 Hz, Sensitivity: 88 dB, Impedance: 4 Ohms, Power Handling, Peak: 1100 Watts, Power Handling, RMS: 275 Watts.
It is easily removable and matches my carpet, note the RD strut bar and Eclipse amp.
With an Eclipse 400 watt amp the system is "out of control"
Incredible sound through the stock speaker holes and cabinets.
