So - after 2 years without a Miata and missing my 92 Black and Tan I was wondering if I should just go ahead and get another one. Out of the blue I get a phone call offering this all original, one owner 94 Miata for free - the catch? Go to Washington DC and pick it up - then restore it.
Game on....

Things I know about the car:
It overheated at one point enough to warp the head slightly. It never appeared to blow the actual head gasket as there was no coolant in the oil and no oil in the coolant - and no smoke.
It sat for a couple of years after the original owner had the overheating problem. She got an estimate of ~3200.00 to replace the head, timing belt, water pump and a few other items.
I got the car running - then did a dry compression test. The numbers ranged from 95-125 - definitely time for some engine work...
I started going through the motor and came up with the following items to repair or replace:
Remanufactured cylinder head
New timing belt and water pump
All new coolant and vacuum hoses with new clamps
New A/C and PS belts
New plugs and wires
All new gaskets
New exhaust
New Oxygen sensor
New plugs and wires
New PCV valve and grommet
New fuel and air filters
Replace ground wires as they are corroded and dirty
Obviously new coolant, oil and filter, and I'm sure other things as I dig into it.
Let the fun begin....
Old cylinder head out of car finally!
Many hours of disassembly and cleaning later and we
are ready to start putting it all back together....
