I bout Scampy from my brother when I was 14 almost 15 for $850 bucks. We found her about 4 miles up the road from our house in a driveway that rested a 66 Charger. Brother drove it for about 6 months everyday to work and it ended up in my hands. Being 14 and having a car I felt like the man in town although I was laughed at cause I had a old nasty green car while everyone drove new cars and trucks I kept my head high and realized that their jealousy is gonna build the car by itself.
About a year later I sent her to Maco and had her painted to a darker green cause the original sassy color wasnt cutting it ha.
Shortly after that I changed the top to black cause obviously it didnt match even though the original one was mint.
I have a LOT of pictures but dont feel necessary to spend a day scanning them of the process of the car but her she sat after about 2 years of work with solid Centerlines. Talk about being a proud and happy 17-18 year old! Funny how paint and wheels change the peoples perception on old cars because EVERYone loved my Scampy!
After a year of the "leaning tower of power" runs with the visual and sound (flowmaster) of a fast car it was time for the next level.
My brother knew a guy that had a 68 Satilite with a 318 in it that was just sitting there. He sold the motor to me for 200 dollars and it was brought home. My brother and I tore it apart and rebuilt it. I sent the heads out to a guy, put a mild comp cam in ( 272 duration), double roller timing chain, edelbrock high rise intake with edelbrock 650 carb. 6AL box with MSD coil and Mopar Performance distributor which later changed to MSD. Powdercoated FlowTec headers breathing trough 2 1/2 inch flowmaster turn downs. One set back was the automatic tranny, would have liked a 4 speed but slapped a 2800rpm TCI stall with a shift kit which shook the dash every gear. Nothing too special really but all I wanted was something that sounded NICE and went a lil better then the ol slant... The outcome was perfect, she had a outrageous sound for a lil 318 that would make you think she ran 12's all thanks to my brother.
The car on the right is one of my brothers 3 cars, 65 Barracuda.
(Next page) My 94 Dakota and Scampy.. You can see the headers tryin to mow the lawn haha
Two years ago I went to visit my father in Georgia for a week and on the morning I was leaving to come home I got a phone call at 5:30 in the morning waking me up to tell me I no longer have a truck or car! Which is very confusing waking up to that early. A squarl got into my engine compartment of my Dakota, chewed wires and cough fire which spread to my garage where Scampy sat. Im sure most of you have been through the loss of a loved one, times that by 2. I realize its just a car but having a car from the age of 14 to the age of 24 you have a tendency of falling in love with it especially if you like nothing but cars/trucks. I pretty much grew up with it, and so did it. Almost like having a kid? Goes to show you life is short, enjoy it while its here because you just NEVER know what the next morning will bring you!
