Battery Box Fabrication

In order properly power all of the electronics for the audio/video system, we will be using 16 SVR 2000SP batteries. There will be 8 mounted on the drivers side in a custom fabricated battery box in the old footwell location and 8 mounted in a custom fabricated battery box on the passenger side in a re-worked factory original location.

Fabricating the battery boxes.

The original footwell location needed to be cut out.

The bottom door jamb piece is welded into its' new location & the opening in the floor from the footwell was replaced with the same 3/16" steel plate that was used on the rest of the floor.

The floor extension will be installed by being clamped to 2 temporary bars.

The opening of the new battery box will be framed in with 1 1/4" solid steel bar. The weight of the batteries will be around 800 lbs. so we needed to make sure it was strong enough to support that much weight.

The finishing touch, we capped off the edges around the opening with 1"x1" x 1/8" steel angle and added a mounting ring made from 1" x 1/4" steel flat that a plexi glass window will bolt to.

Battery Box Door Fabrication.

The battery box doors will be made from a 1/2" steel tube frame to allow for enough clearance for the plexi-glass window that will be getting installed. The door skins will be fabricated from 1/8" steel plate.
