Fiberglass Front Door Panels/SST6.9 Speaker Enclosures

Each of the front door panels will be fabricated out of fiberglass & contain 8 Soundstream SST6.9 speakers. Each door will be powered from 2 Soundstream Tarantula TR500/4 amplifiers for a total power rating of 1000 watts RMS per door or 125 watts RMS per SST6.9 speaker.

The mounting bases will be fabricated from 1" MDF due to the weight & power that the door panels will have.

Fabricating the Front Door Panels.

Laying out the speaker rings. This was the only mounting option possible that would allow enough clearance for the door latches & to keep the speakers above the floor line.

Due to the lack of the doors having any usable door jambs to run wires through, this will need to be fabricated into the door panels. We will be using stainless steel door looms from Keep It Clean (Autoloc).

We decided to shorten the overall length of the doors to allow for the fabrication of the new battery boxes & we decided to suicide open the doors.

Trim panel for the Autoloc Bear Claw door latches & the 35 pound selonoids.

This is the new layout for the Soundstream SST6.9 speakers on the shorter door with the suicide opening design.

The trim panel was re-enforced with fiberglass chopped mat.

The plugs were pre drilled & screwed to the the mounting rings for easier locating once the panel is wrapped with material.

The door panel will be wrapped with T-shirt material & then re-enforced from behind with fiberglass chopped mat.

The door panels will be bolted to the doors & fiberglassed in place for the first few layers of un-waxed resin to make sure that the door panel will have the correct shape.

Once the resin dried, the plugs were removed so the excess un-waxed resin could be cleaned up around the speaker mounting locations before the final coat of waxed resin is applied.

The plugs were re-installed for the application of the final coat of waxed resin.
