Window Trim/Soundstream Tarantula SST4.0 Speaker Enclosure Build.

The new window trim panel will house the 16 Soundstream Tarantula SST4.0 speakers. The 4 on the far left will play the stereo left signals & the 4 on the far right will play the stereo right signals. The 8 in the center will play the center frequencies for complete left to right fill in Dolby mode & act as the center channel in 5.1 surround mode.

The base panel will be made out of 3/4" MDF. This may sound like overkill for 4" speakers but this will also be the new support to hold the 1 1/4" bullet resistant glass for the windshields in place so it needs to be strong.

Looks like all the rings will fit as planned.

The corners of the windshield openings will be cut out with the hole cutter set to 6" on the drill press and then finish them off with the router.

A quick test fit to make sure everything fits before the fiberglassing begins.

Looks good.

Now that the frame is finished and fits as expected, it can now be fiberglassed.

The frame will be getting wrapped in T-shirt material instead of the usual fleece do to the unusual shape. This material has more give and stretchability making it much easier to wrap.

The material can now be coated with a coat if resin. Only UNWAXED resin will be used for now. Notice the 2 plugs in the center to help the material retain its' shape.

The now hardened T-shirt material will get strengthened with a few layers of 34oz. chopped fiberglass mat.

Now on to the many hours of sanding, grinding, filling & shaping it will need to get the finish needed.

The "body work" is finally complete after countless hours of working on it. It will be getting a few coats of high build primer and a good wet sanding before the final finish goes on it, but that will be done at a later date after all the rest of the interior pieces have been fabricated.

wow man i love originality and in my opinion this is one of the most original on this entire site. i never even thought about an armored truck, and i try hard to think outside the box. do you mind my asking what the cost of the truck was? and how long did it take you to find it?
