System Build

The time has come to start building the Stereo system.

Starting with the basics...making the mounting rings for the speakers.

Cutting out the ring blanks for the Soundstream Tarantula SST6.9 speakers.

25 SST6.9 ring blanks roughed out.

Now that the ring blanks are roughed out, a master template to make all the rest out of can be made. A quick pass through the router table will smooth out the outside for a perfect match with the grills.

The paper template is now going to be attached to the Master template with some spray glue to hold it in place while the center gets cut out.

Perfect fit!

The center of the Master is cut out and shaped perfectly with a quick pass on the drum sander. It is now ready to be used to finish routing the rest of the rings.

Pre-drilled access holes in the center to allow for the jigsaw blade.

All done. 16 finished SST6.9 mounting rings & 8 SST6.9 plugs.

The templates are laid out on the 5/8" MDF.

The outsides can now be shaped to match the the grills with a quick pass on the router table. The edge of the grills will be masked off to prevent them for being gouged up from the trim bit bearing.

The backside inner edge needed to be rounded over to allow better air flow from the speakers. A quick pass on the router table with a round-over bit will take care of it.
