Project: Armoredhaulin' was a brain child of mine almost 6 years ago. I wanted to build a show vehicle that would be different than many of the usual types of vehicles that are used for competitions and also be able to realistically carry the massive amount of weight that a competition sound system adds to a vehicle while being able to withstand the high SPL levels I anticipate the sound system to produce.

I also wanted to incorporate the high quality installation techniques and cosmetics that are typically found in high end SQ vehicles but with the intense amount of volume comparatable to that of which is found in some of the worlds loudest competition vehicles.

With the help of my sponsors, all of the above goals will be attainable and Project: Armoredhaulin' won't be mistaken for any other competition vehicle out there.

Project: Armoredhaulin is based off of a 1992 GMC Topkick 6500 platform. It has a Caterpillar 3116 turbo diesel engine and International suspension.

The truck was hand built by MCT Custom Truck Bodies Inc. of Memphis, TN in February 1992.

Specfications:

Top Speed: 62 MPH

Max Horsepower: 170 HP

Max Torque lb-ft: 420 @ 1560 RPM

Unloaded Weight: 8,836 LBS.

Max Loaded Weight: 24,995 LBS

Overall Dimensions: 8' Wide x 20' Long x 10' High

The truck was acquired from the now defunct armored transport company CDC Systems formally located in Elizabeth, NJ in August 2006.

It took almost 5 years of searching to acquire one of these trucks. Trying to find a company that was willing to sell one to a private party was the biggest challenge.

The truck was in somewhat rough condition, but compared to others I had seen, this one was in amazing shape and for the price I got it for, I was more than willing to invest the extra time & money to bring it back to better than new condition.

These trucks are usually intended to be sold overseas to security companies or crushed when they are retired from service They are usually impossible to acquire from a private party sale. I got lucky and was in the right place at the right time.

The ultimate goal is to have the truck ready for the Spring Break Nationals in Daytona Beach, FL in March 2010!  A tough goal to obtain? Possibly, but I will not forgo quality just to make a deadline.
