The below was the condition of my engine when I got my car. I decided to restore the entire engine compartment section by section without removing the engine.

I started the engine compartment restoration at the front left fire wall.

I removed the hood latch assembly and put it in my vice and took my electric drill with a wire wheel attchment to it. Under the hood I sprayed with soap & water and scrubbed the corner good. A hand brush and old toothbrush did all this. When it dried I masked off the area and covered the engine with rags and sprayed black duplicolor hi temp paint.
Just use common sence about the ventalation. I have a floor fan at the open garage door.

I simply continued the process all the way around the perimiter of the entire engine compartment. I removed the hood to gain access to the area around the radiator and the headlight assembly. This gave me full access to the underside of the hood and polish the hood hingesnwhich you'll see elswhere on this page before I'm finished putting it together.

I stripped and repainted the original hood latch assemblies to look brand new and reinstalled them.

I stripped the paint off the original fan, polidhed, painted and clearcoated and replaced it.

This is the original wiper motor. I put it in my vice, took it apart, cleaned and lubricated the gears. I used a wire wheel 'drill' attachment to polish it then duplicolor clear coat finish. I used plastic spray paint on the black plastic cover.

Below is the before and after under the right side. The overflow resavoir in each picture is the same original tank. I removed it, scrubbed it clean and refinished it in white plastic spray paint.

Below are the before and after hood hinge pix. I put them in my vice, whire wheeled them then polished and cleared them both. Beats paying $100.00 for a pair of chrome ones.

I stripped the underside of the hood, filled in the uneven spots from removing the insulation clips, sanded, primed, resanded and duplicolor hi temp black painted it. The brand new rubber weather stripping came off the shelf from O'Riley's.
