Now we start prepping for the final phase of paint work.First, everything that will get checkeres, and Mayfair badges must be fine sanded with 600 grit or finer paper. I choose 600, as it will level out the new clear,as well as create an excellent surface for the paint that's going on.
Now the serious fun begins That's the post between the fender and the front edge of the door. I got the idea from the 2006 MINI Checkmate model. I thought it would be a small way to modernize the "Classic"
The boot and the bonnet. This was done with standard 3/4" masking tape, and a very sharp razor. I'm going for a "Ghost Effect CheckerBoard" This will be done in the same pearl white as the roof. I'll use a tint of blue pearl to slightly alter the original color.
This is how it looks as it's unwrapped. Minus the clearcoat and smoothing the edges a bit, I'd say this looks pretty good. My good friend and East Coast's most awesome airbrush artist, John Wooten (see some of his work at House of Kolors web site)did the simple task of lettering for me on the quarter panels and the boot lid. He has a great deal more patience then I could ever have for this type of work.
All set and ready for clear coating. Now this is where my photography skills needed a jump start. I forgot to photograph this phase.....duhhh!!!!

Very sweet mini! I love the progress pics! And the blue checkers on the sides is a first! I can only hope that my mini will look half as nice when it's done.
