Page 5 - Underbody and rear rust treatment, beginning of body work

Heres a close up of the underbody. Specifically the floorboard before sanding.

this rusted through hole is disgusting. Now I see why it took me so long to adjust the gap on the passengers side fender. The hole will be patches up with new metal after it is drivable but for now it will be POR15ed

Shot from the rear

I threw out about 5 or 6 of these dustpans full of rust while sanding and grinding underneath. The poor mans Stage 1 weight reduction lol.

POR15 works wonders

The above one is a photoshop I was thinking of. After I put in some red SFCs I might just paint the SFs to match and see how that looks contrasted with the black.

A little break form the rust to see hoe the new plates look with the black outs.
Body work time?

Ah if only... I pulled the rear bumper cover so I could sand it and I found that the bumper/crash bar has been rusted through and is now practically a 2 piece. I figured while Im taking my time with this build and doing everything right ill pull the bar and replace it with a better one and clean up all remaining rust on the rear.

Shot of the crash bar pulled off. I hope no one ever has to deal with taking one off. It took about 5 hours to get off and a sawzall.

This is the drivers side mount for the crash bar.

More rust!

Everything is sanded/grinded, cleaned and prepped for some more POR15.

Once again a huge difference. POR15 is well worth the money for anyone on the fence about buying it.

The rust was so bad next to each brace that I had to cut it out. Theres no need to weld in another piece since the strength isnt weekend and the crash bar essentially mounts to the rear SF.
Body work yet?
Ok here's some teaser pictures of the body work.

The el cheapo spray gun that works awesome. Great for primering and paintjobs that you arent being to picky about. By the way this car is going to be flat black. Currently looking for John Deere Black Blitz Paint.

It begins...

Started sanding everything down on the body. Heres the rear quarter after some sanding with the DA

So since the old deck lid wasn't even salvageable I looked for about a year for a hatch with the 91-92 Z28 high rise spoiler. And I finally found it. Heres a little mockup of how it will look. It was definantly worth the wait.

No rear defroster so it looks super clean. Also has the 3rd brake light.

Shot form the top

Virtually no rust on the bottom! Can you say lucky?
