The car runs like a gem, it does have 142 K on it the speedometer, it is accurate. For the most part the car is in good shape however, it has some minor flaws. The body needs TLC, there is rot in the wheel wells and the doors, the front end was in a collision and I had a chance to replace the nose and hood however, as you can see the paint does not match up. The interior is black with many new parts, I had replaced the whole dash console, the drivers side seat has a tear in it and the carpet is torn.
Overall the car kicks ass, I have a lot of time and put a lot of $ into it with a lot of help from various websites which I highly reccomend for parts, www.mazspeed.com #1 site for Rx7s, www.ebay.com, and www.mazdatrix.com-#1source for aftermarket and factory parts however quite pricy. Your best bet for parts is on mazspeed.com and go into the forum and post what you need, check it out! I'll tell you, in order to pass inspection everything is in working order except the E-brake, the cable is snapped @ the drivers side rear drum, an easy fix and you can get the part thru mazspeed.com or mazdatrix.com look under 1st generation parts 1982.
I hate to let go of it, I finally got it running sweet. The issue is that I am in college and my folks wont let me keep another car on the property due to the fact I have a 72 dart along with a jeep, my mom is ready to cut my head off! I love the car and just want to see it go to a good home, there are way too many good parts in it just to junk it, I think that most people see it and believe that it is another foriegn piece of junk, what they don't know that it houses a rotary engine fueled with a 4 bbl nikki and with some mods can blow any of these foriegn wannabes off the road! This car has a lot of potential to kick ass however, for 1; have no place to keep it 2; no place to work one it, my tools are home, and 3; really have no time or $ to fix it up due to the fact I am trying to graduate this year and move south!
Hopefully one day I can pick another 1st gen Maz Rx7 up again, they dont call it the poor mans porsche for nothing, and to be honest with you, mechanically I prefer it to the porsche just due to the fact that it is powered by a rotary along with its overalll rarity.
Like I said, overall the car is a gold mine if you know anything about Rxs, but to the average "kid" it might as well be considered another import. It has some minor defects that I can show you in person if you want to check it out or drive if you want. As I said I hate to see it off, I had a lot of interest working on it and believe me if I had the time and money I would make it into a sweet import.
