EXHAUST MANIFOLD

Due to the larger turbo a new exhaust manifold needed to be manufactured to suit. Size being the main constraint I aimed to have something with individual runners meeting up by the turbo.

First thing was to get the flange for the head side made up and the turbo turbine side inlet made. The turbo flange was a stock item so I grabbed one of these, but a template was needed to make the head flange from.

On the right above is the flange cut. I paid the extra and got this water cut as the dressing required from oxy cutting was just not worth it.

My father dilled out a flat piece of 100 x 100 plate with the four holes where the individual tubes connect and we made up a tappering box to the turbo flange. a pipe off the side for the waste gate was incorporated.

We tacked this up and started on the pipes. Due to the size of the turbo it was pretty well determined where the piped could and couldn't go and the length. We tried to keep them of approximately the same length. However one pipe is about 100mm shorter the rest are relative though.

Below are progress pics and the final tacked up product before it's all welded together properly. There's was lots of trial fitting but it's completed now and will hopefully flow as expected.

I have finished it off and got it faced locally. Original quotes from a performance shop was $300. From a local pipe manufacturer was considerably cheaper. It pays to shop around. It's all nice and flat now and set to go. Here's what it looks like.

I have now painted the manifold up. I wanted to go for a matt gray to just blend in with the bay but didn't read the can properly so ended up with aluminium... it's a bit shiny..

I just really wanted to stop it from rusting so hpefully this will work it's rated to over a thousand degree's so we'll see how it lasts..

Probably just do burnouts everywhere but the comedy factor will be there in between blowing up gearboxes... With slicks and adjustable boost running low in first then increasing through the gears it should be sweet. Also bearing in mind it's not going to hit big boost till 6,000 it should already be well moving so hopefully not too much stress..?? Ahh.. whats the worst that could happen aye..

dude this car is ridiculous, the turbo is bigger than the dang engine. That said, i am so in awe of this car. My ET is just a humble lil burner. compared to your beast i feel tiny. I hear that NZ is notorious for tough cars, and most of them being street driven. haha keep me posted on developments, id love to see this car when its finished.
