This is my 1986 Toyota Cressida bought new by my dad. This car is older than me so I did grow up with this car. This car is Canadian-spec meaning it has the digital dashboard and has a limited slip differential as standard options. My dad did not order the sunroof which is the only option offered. When it comes to plans, I do not plan anything grand nor probably interesting. The goal is a simple restoration. Why? Mainly because I enjoy everything about this car and do not wish to change anything about it. Rust is the biggest problem thanks to Toronto salt turning even newer cars into rust buckets.

This is it...a car I never thought I would be driving 10 years ago. Since day 2 behind the wheel of this car, I suddenly no longer wanted to drive anything else, it literally killed off my need for something sporty. Reading the similarities between this car and the Mk II Supra only did I realize why it felt a lot better than a lot of newer mainstream cars I drove. I also started to appreciate the differences between FWD and RWD, now a big factor into what I want in a car. Toyota doesn't make cars like this anymore that are big, RWD, and most importantly fun. Wouldn't love this car as much as I do now if it isn't a blast to drive.

Side view, the salt from Toronto's roads means I definitely need new fenders. Funny enough the mouldings are taking the most damage from the rust even though they're plastic.

Rear view, picture was taken a few years ago when it was untouched. As you can see I lost the trunk chrome piece, it fell off at an unknown time. Sadly a rubbish driver did hit it when my sister was driving the car. Its no longer smooth, but thankfully the car is still fine.

Front view, despite the way the front bumper looks its very strong. Apparently when the car was newer, a Corvette hit it at the parking lot and lots a lot of paint while the rubber on the bumper only got a bit rough. Even a new Honda Odyssey got pretty damaged when the driver hit it on the left corner. However a stupid trailer ball from a SUV/Wagon/Van damaged the car underneath the bumper, sadly I have no idea who did this because its the only damage this car ever received. Honestly Toronto drivers cannot park to save their lives.

The digital dashboard, I'm not sure whether I can go back to analog. The only bad thing with this is it doesn't really remind you that you forgot to turn on your lights since its bright even in the dark. I don't understand why Toyota never brought this well laid out digital dash to its other cars, its one the most simple digital dashboards from the 1980s with regards to clarity.

The interior, still in good condition after so many years of abuse from children. Since it uses sofa seats they're actually quite comfortable despite them being a heat sponge. This was type of seat Toyota used when leather was an expensive luxury in the 1980s, today its a rubbish cloth insert with nowhere near the level of comfort.

The 5M-GE engine, it was taken in for a rebuild which is why it looks better than everything else in the engine bay. I've never tested a 0-100 km/h on it but I estimate it at 10 seconds, the engine seems better suited to cruising. At 156 hp as the stock number, its not terrible fast today but crucially its still on par with modern 4-cylinders if not better. If you want good fuel economy on this car, drive fast without stopping really really helps.
