Magna Donelly Rear View Mirror
_________________________________________________________________________________
I used to have a stock wrangler mirror and it seriously did its time, it was falling apart. So I once again made a trip down to “Al-Mana” (Jeep Dealer in Qatar). They wanted about $100 for a stock wrangler mirror. So I surfed the web, until I found the Magna Donnelly self Dimming mirror with compass, temperature and map lights. It was about $180 with shipping.
So for $80 extra I now have a far better mirror. No longer will I get blinded from someone inconsiderate. I will know in which direction I am driving, I will know what the outside temperature is and I will have some extra light.
How to install a Magna Donnelly Rear View Mirror
The first thing you need to know, generally when you change your mirror you have to change the pallet on your windscreen. Do not do this your self unless you have done this before, trust me it ended badly. I had no problem removing my old pallet, how ever when gluing the new pallet something went wrong and when I mounted my mirror the next day, I removed a chuck of glass from my windshield.
I would strongly suggest that you take your car to a shop to do it; if it breaks your windshield they are responsible for replacing it. How ever I just decided to make Aluminum mount for it, which attaches to the tie down loop and the centre bolt used to mount the hard top. The same Aluminum Mount also supports my display.
The Mirror then has a 7 Pin Connecter
(1.) Ignition
(2.) Ground
(3.) N/C
(4.) Temp Sensor
(5.) Temp Sensor
(6.) Door Switch (To Ground)
(7.) Live
I connected it up as follows, except for the door switch I connected to the ground side of driver side dome light. So that when I open the door the map lights will turn on, when I turn on the dome lights the map lights come one as well. Be sure to fuse the live and Ignition cables as you probably don’t want your car to burn down. I also just added a diode to the domelight just to be sure i dont damage the maplights with the wrong volage going in there.
I placed the sensor on the fog lamp mount on the inside of the Left bumper. Try to keep ambient temperature sensors away from sources of heat, such as your radiator, engine or exhaust. Also try to locate it so that it won’t get torn of by a rock.
