The Bluebird is the third 1967 Skylark convertible that has come my way. The first one I owned, ivory with a black top, I sold to get one of them little foreign sports cars. Silly me. I realized it was a mistake when the new owner drove off in my Buick, but didn't know how much of a blunder it was until I started driving that sports car. Or tried to. I was afraid to get more than 25 miles from home for fear of a breakdown. that was 1975.
So I went looking for Skylark #2. That was 1976. And I found her in Blue Pt., New York For $900. What a deal. Another convertible of course. Red with a white top this time. And bucket seats. Poor thing kept getting smashed into when parked. Must have been the red color. Ran her 'till the transmission fell out. Had to drive in reverse all the way to the junk yard. But I still knew that day giving it to the junkman was mistake #2. But couldn't afford to get her fixed, and dragging around a car that didn't quite drive right wasn't an option. Hopefully some of her parts are still crusing around Philadelphia on some others ride.
But all these years I did keep a NOS grille in the original GM box that came with the car from the previous owner, but never got around to putting it on. Guess I knew it had a higher purpose.
Well this spring, after I retired, I found my 3rd "lark". The Bluebird. Bought her sight unseen from an 83 year old gentleman up in Baltimore who owned her for 30 years.
She's down here in Florida now, undergoing a full restoration, so I can finally use that ole' grill. I guess you could say retired in paradise as well.
Thanks for looking
