June 6 2008 Hey my car made Top Ride Overall! How in the world did that happen? Thanks everyone.
Home away from home. My friend Mike(Green Grabber Maverick) and I at Summit Racing
in McDonough, Georgia.
Here is a very short video of me doing a burn out. Sorry for the bad video quality.
This is my Hemi Orange 1974 Duster 360. I bought this car from a friend I work with. I plan to continue on upgrading the performance and over all appearance of the car. My long term plan was to swap out the motor for a 5.7L Hemi and repainting her Sublime green. I think now it would more cost effective to just stroke the 360 to a 408. This may be years before it happens. But, if gas gets any higher I'll be looking for a 225 to put in there.LOL. Everyone voted to leave the Duster Hemi Orange. So, that's what I'll do. I want to paint the hood flat black and add a snorkel hood scoop. That'll be sweet! Stay tuned!
The Duster came with a 318 from the factory. I have no idea what happened to it. The 360 either came from the Little Red Express truck or a police cruiser.
The 360 has been totally rebuilt. The block was bored .30 over, the heads have a mild port job with 2.02 intake valves, a Crane powermax cam, an Edelbrock performer rpm air gap intake and Edelbrock 600 cfm carb(this is being change for a 750 cfm. The 600 is to small.) fills the top end. For the Exhaust TTI headers were installed. A X pipe was made and run to Dynomax's Super Turbo mufflers. The X pipe gives the Duster a very unique, more aggressive sound.
The stock 727 transmission was pulled and a GM 700R4 trans. was put in its place. Why a GM trans in a Mopar? Well, the 700R4 is lighter, and responds better when you put your foot to the floor. The 727 can rob the engine up to 40hp to to get the car to move. The other reason for the swap was for the overdrive. This will definitely help when traveling on the highway which rarely happens anyway.
These are pictures that I took of the Duster right after I bought it. This car really needs something to break up all the orange. To solve that I plan on applying factory style strips to her with the 360 numbers. This should make huge difference in the way the car looks.
This is the Duster that started it all for me. This was my uncle Kevin's 1973 Twister Duster 3 speed with a Hurst shifter in the floor from the factory. This photo was taken sometime in the late 70's perhaps in '77. I was seven years old at the time of the photo and still remember taking rides in it. He sold it in the early 80's. During the years he has seen it couple of times and knew where it sat in a yard. Now however we have no idea what has happened to it. I would really love to get a hold of this car and restore it.
