Single Turbo Buildup Begins!
I have begun the process of converting the car over to single turbo. My goal is 700rwhp on C16, 550rwhp on 93 octane pump gas.
The first step was ordering the turbo kit. I have chosen the Powerhouse Racing kit. Although it is a little more expensive, it is well worth the money for the quality. We chose the Stage 2+ kit with the dual ball bearing option.

From Powerhouse's website:
PHR Stage 2+ Single Turbo Upgrade System. Do you want even more horsepower and torque than the Stage 2 System can provide but still want similar response? The PHR Stage 2+ Turbo System has made quite a name for itself in the past few years by single handedly off the competition one race at a time. With similar boost response to the Stage 2 System, the Stage 2+ (GT67) turbo can provide approximately 30 more RWHP over the Stage 2 (GT62) turbocharger. While upgraded camshafts are not necessary, a street grind such as the HKS 256 or 264 durations would work nicely in conjunction with the PHR Stage 2+ System. The Stage 2+ System includes the original top-quality HKS 50mm stainless steel header, HKS GT 60mm external wastegate, 65mm 321 stainless steel wastegate dump tube, 3 mandrel bent downpipe with V-band connectors, 3 mandrel bent midpipe with V-band connectors, 2.5 mandrel bent aluminum drop down intercooler piping, high gloss 3-ply silicone connectors in red, blue, or black, 4 air intake tube, 4 K&N high flow air filter, GT67 turbocharger with polished PHR compressor housing, 10AN stainless steel braided oil drain line, 4AN Teflon stainless steel oil feed line, 4AN Teflon stainless steel wastegate control lines, stainless steel turbocharger gaskets, stainless steel locking exhaust manifold nuts, stainless steel hose clamps, and all hardware for a worry-free install. As an added bonus, the downpipe includes an oxygen sensor flange for the Toyota unit, as well as an 18mm bung for a wideband sensor. The HKS exhaust manifold and all exhaust components are fully Extreme 2000 black heat coated for durability and heat reduction, and all intercooler piping is ceramic coated to reduce thermal conductivity. Also, since all kit components are the same, the Stage 2+ System can be upgraded to the Stage 3 System by simply changing the turbocharger if desired. Our famous drop down design intercooler piping takes a direct route to the front mount intercooler to reduce turbo lag, therefore, our intercooler piping is specific to each brand.
Next I ordered the Powerhouse Stage 2 Fuel System with 850cc Injectors.
From Powerhouse's website:
PHR Stage 2 Fuel System Upgrade. The PHR Stage 2 Fuel System is similar to the Stage 1 system, but includes larger fuel injectors along with dual Walbro fuel pumps for the highest flow rates possible. This newly-revised fuel system features the new PHR 17.25mm ID high flow fuel rail in addition to the potent Walbro GSS300 series in-tank fuel pumps. The 17.25mm fuel rail is a PHR exclusive, and is the largest ever designed and sold for the Supra. This fuel rail can flow enough fuel to safely support over 1,400 Horsepower. Stage 2 is a high quality complete fuel system upgrade for customers needing to support between 700 and 1,000 Rear Wheel Horsepower. Includes dual Walbro fuel pumps, PHR 17.25mm ID high flow fuel rail upgrade, Siemens 850cc fuel injectors, #6 Stainless Steel braided lines, PHR quick-release injector clips, liquid-filled fuel pressure gauge, Aeromotive EFI fuel pressure regulator, PHR regulator mounting bracket, polymer fuel pump wrap, and all necessary hardware for a complete installation. This dual fuel pump setup has been tested to over 1,000 Horsepower with no loss of fuel pressure. A very quiet and potent alternative to external fuel pump systems.
I also decided to add HKS 264 Camshafts and Crower Springs and Retainers while doing the cam upgrades. This is a nice safety belt to have when increasing power, not to mention titatium retainers are lighter than stock and should rev faster.

Next we added the electronics to the car for the fuel management. I had thought about using MapECU or AEM, but I decided that because the car is daily driver, and I had good luck with the HKS VPC before, I would stick with that proven method. The VPC also idles perfectly and is very drivable. They are discontinued, so I bought a used one. For fine tuning, the HKS SuperAFR will be added which will allow fuel tuning at certain RPM points.
Here is the VPC and SuperAFR temporarily mounted in the glove box until it gets mounted in the dash to the left of the steering wheel.

Upon install of the VPC and SuperAFR we removed the fields harness, TTC Switch, and Apexi AFC fuel controller.

Single Turbo, Cams, Fuel, EGR Block off plates, and polishing of engine bay will begin on 2/14/05.
2/9/05--HKS Cams have arrived.

2/16/05-
While I am away in Utica New York, Horatio, my mechanic, has started the Single Turbo, fuel system, and Cams install.
Here are some pics of everything coming off the car to go to the polisher for polish and chrome.

2/23/05
I am still away in Utica New York on a business trip, but the car buildup continues in Tampa. Here are some pictures of Horatio's work while he was installing the HKS 264 cams, and the springs and retainers.
Turbo kit is on the way and should be in Tampa late this week.

2/25/05
Today I finally got a chance to sit down and order gauges for the car. I wanted digital gauges, something different, so I decided to go with Dakota Digital ION II series gauges. I think they'll look hot in the car.

I also decided it would probably be wise to do a wideband O2 Sensor in the car, and PLX seems to make a very nice kit. This goes where my current boost gauge is, in the factory clock location.

We're going with Boost (0-100psi High Resolution), Fuel Pressure, and Oil Pressure on the A-Pillar, and AFR Wideband where the factory clock resides now. I decided to spend the extra money for a gauge that goes over 30psi and this boost gauge is very accurate according to Dakota.

2/26/05-
Work continues on my car. My turbo kit is on the UPS truck, and Luke picked up 2 of about 20 pieces for my car that are at the polisher either getting polished or chromed.
My intake manifold will be ready for pickup tomorrow from the polisher.
Here is some pics from today. The first picture is of the new timing belt installed, and the rest of the polished valve covers.

2/27/05
After looking at the pictures of the engine bay, I decided we need pulleys. I ordered a set of power pulleys that will arrive at Horatio's on Wednesday. Got a tracking number for the Turbocharger itself which was the only thing that was being held up.
The pulleys help underdrive the accessories slightly to gain horsepower, plus they are 1.4 pounds compared to 14 pounds for the stockers, which means quicker revving.

3/1/05
Luke picked up my intake manifold from the polisher today, and the rest of of the parts will be ready tomorrow from the chromer. Gotta say it looks pretty sick.

3/2/05-
The Powerhouse Stage 2+ Single Turbo kit has arrived. It looks f'ing sick.
Check it out.

Cam gears came back from the polisher all F'ed up. They are going straight back to the polisher to be re-chromed.

3/5/05
Polisher backed out and we found a new polisher.
Horatio and Luke spent all day on the car today. The setback with the polisher is really gonna slow thigs down unless we can get the intake and throttle body and cam gears and water neck quickly out of all the parts they have. Horatio and Luke got the fuel system in the car I believe, and they definitely got the stock turbos off the car and the single kit on. Looks pretty awesome. Here's some pics of the car getting towed to the shop and the excellent work Luke and Horatio did.

3/6/05- Valve Covers and Intake on the car. Waiting for parts from the polisher now.

3/8/05-The polisher refused to chrome plate the PS reservoir so we took it to the powdercoater and had it done gloss black..sorry for the fingerprints.

3/10/05
Here are pictures of the stock turbos about to be boxed up and shipped out to California.

Here are the power pulleys.

3/12/05
Ordered these kick ass battery terminals.

3/18/05-
Bought a hoopdie!!!! Here's some pictures of the Mazda B2200 Pickup Truck-1991!!!

3/18/05-
Got some goodies in the mail today!!!
My first Florida plates!

Tsunami Battery Terminals with Blue Digital Voltage Display

Also ordered an Optima Blue Top from Summit Racing.

3/19/05-
Most of the polished and chromed parts were picked up today. Here are pictures of the dual Walboros, and the chromed parts. Also the polished intake manifold and throttle body sitting in the engine bay.
All the small bolts are still at the polisher.

3/23/05
Luke and Horacio have almost everything finished on the car. They still need to install the gauges and PLX Wideband, and tighten down all the bolts to the intake and throttle body. I also ordered a Greddy Catch Can and I need the Oil Adapter for the oil filter that allows you to add an oil pressure gauge.
Also Luke needs to change my VPC from the A chip to the B chip.
Here are some near finished pictures of the car. It should be started tomorrow and driven to the lift to be finished, then dyno tuned on saturday in Tampa.
A couple of points of interest. Luke painted the radiator shroud and lower cam cover with plastic paint, gloss black. Note almost everything is chromed or polished including most of the nuts and bolts, and those that aren't will be over the next 2 months while I have time.
Note also the water neck, welded closed and polished and chromed.

3/24/05-
Update: Horacio and Luke started the car today. They are driving it to get fuel put in as we speak. They said it ran good with the usual VPC idle weirdness, but other than that looking good at this point for a saturday dyno tuning session.
I'm flying from New York to Tampa saturday afternoon for all the fun.
3/24/05
Here's a short video my friend and mechanics shot when they started the car today for the first time, after doing Fuel, Cams, and Single Turbo install.

4/9/05
Horacio, Luke and I worked on the car all day yesterday and today. We put in an HKS Twinpower DLI II, and the gauges, and checked my wastegate spring.
We put in that banjo bolt with the hole that allows the pressure sensor to be screwed into it for an oil pressure gauge and mounted the DLI in the front bumper.

My buddies car with the new CCW's.

Crappy picture phone pics of my PLX Wideband.

4/25/05-Took these pics for SupraHardtopRegistry.com

4/25/05-Rejected from T04r.com
My car was rejected for membership from T04r.com. Well I don't know how
rejected but the guy that runs the site blew me off twice when I asked to be in.
4/25/05-Took these updated pictures of the gauges. We sent the boost gauge back because we damaged the bezel installing the pod. Also here are some more exterior shots.

4/29/05- Received my Kool Blue Filter from Accel today, to replace the red one. Looks really nice. Thanks to Mike for suggesting this filter.

4/29/05-
Received my new front Hawk brake pads and my new Purple HKS Wastegate Spring (20psi Spring) which should allow me to run more boost on the top end.
