Stampede351's 2006 Ford MustangStampede351's 2006 Ford Mustang

The 2006 Mustang Stampede Edition was a Ford factory built special. The "Stampede Edition" is clearly denoted on the original Ford window sticker not an add-on sticker as with dealer add on packages. We know so far that there has been a California Limited Edition (CE) and another variant called the SCS or Southern Califonia Special which was not numbered and the sticker still read "California Limited Edition". (Not the same as the nationally available "California Special" package available to GT's in 2007).

It is important to mention the CE and SCS cars becausethe Stampede and the CE are the same car - Same equipment package, same base car - yet sold in different markets. If these cars exist then most likely Ford has released other Regional Specials in other District Sales Offices (DSO). Why is that a big deal? Think 1968 California Special, 1968 High Country Special, 1968 Lonestar Special (aka Bluebonnet Special)....and the list goes on. Ford Regional Specials and other special releases are part of the beauty and mystique of the Mustang. The fact that there can be a collectibility factor in owning a vehicle that rolled off the factory line less than 2 years ago is mind-blowing. Yes, owning a Saleen281 is cool but before it was a Saleen it was just a Ford Mustang... Saleen, Roush, Foose, Heritage, Legend, Cragar, and any other aftermarket customizer is starting with the same product - a factory created Ford Mustang. The original sticker on the car and the DSO codes as well as the VIN come from Ford and do not reflect what the 3rd party company has done. 20, 30, even 40 years from now when the car is in the hands of a new owner and they are trying to restore it they will go by the VIN or other original documentation they have available. Ford created specials have this information upfront and are so cool to discover. Have you ever heard of the Twister, or the Sidewinder? What about the 600? The Gold Nugget? Color of the Month? These are awesome cars that were unique and special the day they were created and more so today because they are original Ford Specials.

Half of the Mustang hobby is about modifying and making a Mustang more unique to the owner. The other half is trying to bring an older car back to its orginal state (concours). Where you fall in this spectrum is as personal as your reason for buying a Mustang in the first place. I ask Stampede owners "Did you select your Stampede because of the numbered plaque and the collectibility of the car? Or was it the options provided at the packaged price too good of a deal to pass up?" Neither is wrong... both are valid reasons... For me, it was 500 vs. 800-900. My 40th Anniversary Coupe in White was 1 of 800-900 but not show quality. Thiscar was perfect, numbered, and rare. My kind of car.
