Install battery in the trunk

Why Needed?: If you need more space in the engine compartment

Items needed and price:
50 foot roll of 1 gauge wire $30-50 (you can change to 2 gauge if you would like, but I chose 1 gauge for my set-up)
6-8 1 gauge ring terminals $2-4 a piece
3/4 in. X 25 ft. Non-metallic Liquid-Tight Flexible Conduit (Store SKU # 610136) $13.28
LatinMax's 2000 Nissan Maxima
1 3/16" all thread, around 30-36" long
8 3/16" nuts, 4 lock washers, 4 large out side diameter washers
battery tie down (like Stillens) or you can use the factory battery tie down
1 or 2 150-200 amp re-settable circuit breaker $25-50 a piece
2 distribution blocks
2 battery terminals (side post as you will be changing to a Optima red or yellow top battery) $5-15 a piece
1 Optima red or yellow top battery $110-180
10-20 12" (or longer tie wraps)

NOW TO GET STARTED

Carefully jack car up on jack stands high enough to get under the car.

Remove the battery and tray.

Remove rear driver tire.

Remove all carpet from driver side trunk.

Take conduit and pre measure where you will want to run it and cut off to size. You will only use about 15", but it will depend on how you route your wire.

Now run your wire thru the conduit out of the car. This will take a little while as it is a very snug fit. I used teflon to help lubricate the wire and the inside of the conduit. Make sure to pull about 2-3 extra feet out of one end. Now crimp a ring terminal on the end of th wire. (If you don't have a crimper, use a chisel and a hammer. Be careful not to cut the ring terminal. just crimp it)

Mark the outside of the cover and then remove the fuel tank filler covers from the rear wheel well. Be very careful not to break the clips.

From wheel well side pre-drill a pilot hole into the trunk. (within the marks of where the cover belongs) As seen below and then look in the trunk to see if it is where it belongs.

Finish hole with a 3/4 hole saw and test fit with a piece of conduit.
LatinMax's 2000 Nissan Maxima
Start from the front of the car and run the conduit with the 2-3 feet of wire up in between the frame into the engine bay and bring wire to near the starter on top of the tranny. (Or to the front of the front strut tower. Only if you are going to install 2 circuit breaker)

Run along the fuel line. This will insure a secure spot to wire tie the conduit and also that it will bet high enough above the frame for it to not hit the ground.

Continue to run around the fuel tank and up the fuel filler lines.
LatinMax's 2000 Nissan Maxima
Then stick the end thru the whole in the wheel well you made earlier.
LatinMax's 2000 Nissan Maxima
Locate a spot to put the rear breaker and cut the remainder wire and crimp on a ring terminal.

Place the battery on the trunk floor and mark where the hole will be for the tie down. Cut the all thread into 2 pieces approximately 3" taller than your battery. (make sure to thread on a nut before cutting. So that you can use the nut to rethread the ends that you cut off by turning it back and forth a few times on the all thread)
LatinMax's 2000 Nissan Maxima
Cut remainder wire to run from the battery to the breaker and crimp both ends with ring terminals. (keep breaker tripped, open circuit)
LatinMax's 2000 Nissan Maxima
Cut remainder wire to run the ground to the bottom left hand bolt on the left rear strut tower and crimp ring terminals on the ends
LatinMax's 2000 Nissan Maxima
Install all threads to hold battery in place. (should be nut, lock washer, large outside diameter washer, trunk floor, large outside diameter washer, nut, empty space up to battery top, nut, lock washer, large outside diameter washer, battery tie down, large outside diameter washer, nut)

Re-install carpet (be sure to trim to fit around wiring and battery) Replace fuel tank filler covers and put rear tire back on. (You can take the car off of the jack stands at this point to make it easier to work under the hood)

Remainder wire should be enough to run from circuit breaker to starter with that runs directly to the battery terminal (only if using 2 breakers. If not skip this step)
LatinMax's 2000 Nissan Maxima
Cut off the original positive battery connections (should be 2-3 wires, 1 of them coming from the starter) and connect to the distribution block and screw down the distribution blocks to the bottom of where the battery tray use to be.

Cut off the original negative battery connections and connect to the distribution block. (I chose one that had eight 8 gauge connections so that I could make my grounding kit)
LatinMax's 2000 Nissan Maxima
Close the circuit on the relay (or relays) and make sure the car is powered up.

Your done and have moved you battery to the trunk.
