I got a 1983 jeep cj7. I'm not new to the jeep world, this is my 4th jeep and 2nd cj7. I got this one when I traded a civic I had and my dirtbike. I thought I was getting such a deal..I was wrong. I had it for 3 hours before the 4.2 blew up on me. Open removing the head, we found that that the number 4 clylinder's piston had a good size chunk missing from it and that there was a small but deep hole in the cylinder wall. So it's dead in the water.
I haven't done anything to the jeep yet, but it will take alot of time to get it going again. It's got a 3 or 4 inch lift that isn't put together right. It's got 2:73 gears and an amc20 rear end. If I need to explain whats wrong with that, then you don't know jeeps. lol The body is sound, there has been some patching, such as new floor boards and a crack on the drivers side was welded up. It's going to need a little attention, but I am not worrying about that yet. It's got sway bar disco's, new steering pump, extended blraided brake lines and some new meats, 33/10:50r15 tyrexes. Those are nice tires.
Once I get a new inline 6 droped in, it will be treated to a new weber carb, some kind of header and exhaust, high flow water pump, polished head with roller rockers, small cam, msd ignition. Then I will move to the rear end, maybe a dana 44 or 60, whatever I can find on the cheap. Then I will stuff the front and back with 4:10 gears and if money allows, lockers front and back.
It'll be hard and take time. Getting the wife to let me spend the money will be the tough part. Thanks for looking

Nice CJ. It's always great to see fellow CJ owners putting elbow grease and time into what is truly the best Jeeps. Nothing beats a well built CJ! I have an 84 CJ that I have been working on for the past 4 years. If you get a chance to check mine out,..let me know what you think. Keep up the great work.
