Winter 06/07 The bumpers are in being re-chromed and should be back by spring. I am adding 2 inches to both wheel tubs so I can fit some bigger tires in there. The drivers side is done

Also had 2 inches added to my 8 inch wide Crager SS wheels and had the backspacing changed be able to add wider tire in my wheel wells.
Picture with wheel the way it was before the backspacing was changed and one wheel that has been widened and backspacing changed.

BadHenry is in the garage for the winter of 05/06. Already can't wait for spring to get here to get her back out. I am in the process of replacing the drivers side quarter panel. It is all on I am just doing some finishing work then I will primer it again for this summer. Just before she went up for the winter I installed a spring relocation kit from Crites. We also had new rear leaf spring made that I installed at the same time as the relocation kits.

Ford's 100th anniversary!!!

THE BEGINNING

We bought the car 2/2002 in Georgia, had to towed it home after the owner said it was a "daily driver". It wasn't even close to that. It had a 302 with 2 broken cylinder skirts so the daily driver motor was junk. The body was really solid which was what I wanted. I knew I was going to replace the motor with an FE motor so didn't care about the motor or transmission that was in it. Bought a 391 FT block (which has the extra webbing to make the block stronger), had it sonic checked, aligned hone, decked the block, had it bored to 4.17, I debured and polished the inside of the block, I polished the rods and had them shot peened, I reworked the oil valley and blocked off the lifter galleys, I restricted oil to rocker arms, had the rotating assembly balanced. I got custom flat top pistons from Ross Racing with maximum dedicated valve relief (compression is 10.8). ARP Rod bolts and Main studs. I installed Comp cam (#33-640-5) valve springs and titanium retainers. I have been very pleased with the way the cam performs. I had all the machine work done by Total Performance in Mount Clemens, MI (thanks Ron Reeder and John Vermeesch). I assembled the motor. I rebuilt a C6 transmission I installed a B & M 3500 stall speed converter plus a TCI manual valve body & a Hurst Pro-Matic 2 shifter. Installed a posi-traction unit I rebuilt and installed 4.11 gears. I used 428 CJ heads and a tri-power manifold. I installed the interior from another 66 Fairlane that is my parts car, the interior was in much better shape. Had to rebuild all wheel cylinders replaced the master cylinder with a double one. I installed new spring perches and new 90/10 shocks. After I got the motor in and running found lots of stuff that had to be fixed. The wiring was a mess had to replace the engine wiring harness, had to redo most of the wiring since previous owner had really messed it up. He had some how rigged it up with the wrong tie rod because he had messed up the spindle. Thankfully I was able to find a used spindle from the Fairlane junk yard in Maryland. I replaced the steering linkage and front suspension with PST Polygraphite parts. It drives like a new car now. Had to installed Lakewood traction bars. Still needs lots of work but I have enjoyed doing it almost as much as driving it. (Okay maybe driving it is more fun.) Got the car on the road the end of August 2002.

January 2003 the new budget!

In Feb. of 03 took the engine out and sand blasted engine compartment then painted that area. Boy what a mess it made in our garage.

I got the Dove rocker arms with end stands and needed new push rods that were just a bit shorter because of the new rocker arms. Also installed a Moroso deep oil pan, bought it last summer but there was no way I was taking the #$%& headers off then, I was waiting till winter when I knew the motor was coming out of the car over the winter.

New Crager S/S wheels with BF Goodrich Drag Radials on back & BF Goodrich T/A Radials on the front. It's first trip of this year to get the new tires. First stop was at the car wash to rinse the sand out of the cowl from the sand blasting. 4/4/03
7/14/03 wore out the first set of BF Goodrich Drag Radials on the back. Got about 1500 miles out of them. So had to get another set. They don't last long but boy do they bite good.

I installed Wilwood disk brakes on the front. Boy are they NICE!!!

The 2004 budget so far.

2/19/04 BadHenry's new fiberglass hood. With the carb spacer you can see the air cleaner is tucked right up in the scoop.

6/04 with the new ram air hood I needed to get the air cleaner up into the hood scoop. I check around and couldn't find 2 inch spacers for the Holley carbs, so I had to machine my own. I started out with a 6 by 6 by 2 inch block of aluminum for each spacer. I machined out the centers passages on a Bridgeport and cut the exterior on a bandsaw and finished with a hand file and die grinder. Then sand blasted to match the finish of the tri-power manifold. It put the air cleaner right up into the scoop should work well.

New upholstery for the front and back seats. Not too bad for my first try at doing it. It wasn't too difficult of a job. I had one spot on the bottom seat frame work that I had to weld. Thankfully I was able to get the old buttons off and reuse them on the seat back. To buy new ones they are $9.99 a piece.

New Coan 4000 stall speed converter BadHenry's 1966 Ford Fairlane
From Moser Engineering new Detroit locker and 31 spline axles.

When the car went up for storage for winter of 2003/2004 I knew I had a transmission leak, I thought it was a pan gasket. Spring time new pan gasket for transmission got the car back running hit second gear first time smoke and big leak again. After some searching found that the case of the C6 had a crack in it. See red arrow in picture. I installed a steel girdle to keep it from cracking when you catch second gear.
Transmission with girdle installed.

1/2004 While our LONG winter is going on I am in the process of doing some body work on BadHenry. My first try at it (other than the tail gate on my truck). Right now I am working on the front driver's fender. So far so good. Had to learn how to do it because I sure can't afford to pay someone. LOL This was slowed down while I had to have some knee surgery.

Me with BadHenry.

Nice Job!, really impressive that you have done everything yourself. I am looking at putting floors in my 67, and am wondering if you supported the car in any special way before cutting the old floors out? Also any recomendation on a Mig Welder brand?
