Bringing the RS back to good "stock" in the cosmetic department
The basic stuff I had to do included :
New starter motor, New radiator, New HCV, New plugs (how long did that take!) New front seat belts, New seat covers.
the headlining was fine until I took it for 100mph+ blast with the windows open. When I got back the headlining was flopping around my ears. Here's the new one.
Followed closely by new weather stripping around the doors, and new armrests. (The plastic was peeling off)
No overheating problems per se, but a home made air dam, and a manual fan switch cooled things down to 170* max.
Ok, so it's a little smokey on start-up, no big deal. But I figure to get the shop guy to do a full top end gasket replacement. get one of those "sucking thru' the teeth phone calls", i.e. "you're head is cracked!" Now in the US, getting a pair of Alloy comp. heads for less than $600 is not much of a problem, in the UK getting a standard re-con head (single) is like $900. Fortunately, I managed to get a second hand head for my year the next day.
